COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - As the Republican campaign to replace President Barack Obama heats up in early voting states like South Carolina, U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint is releasing a book discussing the roots of the tea party crusade and his hopes for the movement in 2012. "I believe that the 2012 elections may be our last chance to stop this insanity of spending and borrowing and debt," DeMint told The Associated Press recently. "I'm trying to recruit more Americans with this book."

GREAT!!! The obligatory book is now completed - it’s time for DeMint to get moving on being our next president.

I like Demint too, and he is spot on when he says we need to clean out Congress and get true conservatives in!

“I like Demint too, and he is spot on when he says we need to clean out Congress and get true conservatives in! “

Yea, I think he’s clearly the FR favorite, if he would JUST RUN!! He’s worked the trenches for years, quietly shaping up the Republicans in the Senate, and even in the House a bit, particularly in the Primaries.

He doesn’t seem (yet) to have the character flaws that most Republican candidates continue to show.

He seems to have choses a different mission:
"I decided my work could no longer be with other senators," DeMint wrote. "I would have to work with the American people to elect a new class of senators who would help me to stop the spending, debt, and the expansion of the federal government."
Can't not like that!

As much as I love DeMint, why hasn't he sought to move up in the GOP ?

He should have challenged John "Big bad" Coryn for chairman of the republican senatorial committee, or tried for the conference chair......

I thought maybe he was angling to be the next republican senate leader, but he doesn't even show signs of that (let alone the Presidency).....

Whatcha waiting for Senator ? Your country needs you.

“Can’t not like that! “

Agree - he’s GREAT!! But even so, if he can pull the Republicans to the American people, he’ll be the next Reagan.

We need great people at all levels. If DeMint were to run for pres., he’d be a leading contender for my vote, at least. Maybe he can do even more good where he is, though.

The first thing we need is a candidate that can actually win in November, and that means someone who can get the base out. The second thing we need a good conservative.

DeMint qualifies on both - and I have no doubt that a good conservative from SC will fill his shoes in the Senate.

I don’t want DeMint to run for president. No way. I want him for eventual Senate Majority Leader. We need a conservative running the Senate instead of these spineless blue-bloods. Let’s keep DeMint on track for Senate Leadership and let another conservative worry about the Executive Branch.

It is pointless for DeMint to try for any Senate leadership positions. The current moderate GOP leadership hates him. His only chance for Senate Leadership is to do exactly what he is doing, go around the current moderates and RINOs and get new conservative senators elected.

How can he move up in a Senate that is completely controlled by moderates and RINOs. He needs a base of support to move up. That is what he is doing. He is building a base of support.

I like your optimism, but for all your confidence, then why can’t South Carolina get rid of that idiot Lindsay Gramnesty?

He played the conservative before 2008 but for some reason (my guess is he thought he would work for McCain in the WH) he turned just before the primaries. We’ll get him in 2014. Don’t worry. Inglis could barely muster 30% of the primary vote in 2010.

Given some odds, I’d bet he won’t even run.

I hope you do get that RINO bum out of there. I thought Arizon was going to fire McCain’s ass but they went and re-elected him. What incredible stupidity.
