The scion of the erstwhile Travancore Royal Family has advised the Supreme Court not to direct opening of the last cellar (vault B) of the famed Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Kerala as it could invite the deity's wrath. In an affidavit before SC, Rama Varma said the vault had an insignia
of a ‘serpent’ indicating that it would not be advisable to open the treasure trove. Alternatively, he said an appeasement ceremony be held before opening the vault to mollify the deity. “The opening of the last cellar namely 'B' is not advisable because ‘serpent’ sign at the entrance indicates that it is not auspicious to open it. However, a decision on this may be taken after conducting the traditional ‘deva prashnam's as not to incur the displeasure of Lord Padmanabha. Opening without conducting 'deva prasnam' will be contrary to the age old religious custom and practise,” senior counsel KK Venugopal, appearing for the petitioner, submitted before a bench of justices RV Raveendran and AK Patnaik.
Varma also opposed any direction from the court for a public display of the huge wealth.

Dunno what a 'deva prasnam' is, but I'll go out on a limb and predict it includes a hefty fee payable to a carefully selected witch-doctor.
