Ive lived in Texas throughout the entirety of the Perry administration. He hasnt been the most awful governor we might have had, but in truth, hes been mediocre. It is true to say that Perry deserves a little credit for the better economic conditions in the state, insofar as hes done no particular harm. On the other hand, its fair to say that part of the reason Perrys done no particular harm, and perhaps the sole reason he hasnt damaged the economy, is because the Texas people, through their legislature, wont let him. The governors real shortcomings are not to be seen so much in the matter of economics, but in his unceasing drive to tamper with the freedoms and lives of Texans for the sake of his corporate cronies.
This screed against Perry is countered in this article by another Texan who uses paragraphs and easy to understand bullet points.

As far as I am concerned, Palin likes this guy and by all accounts, he has done a good job for his state. Seems like enough to give him serious consideration as Pres.
Well, having said something that I did not already know and which was really hard to read, I would vote for a warthog before Obama. So I guess you have not done much to convince this life-long Texan of very much. Just go away and let others much more informed than yourself -—as one “who has lived in Texas” for some unspecified period of time—tell us something we did not already know about Perry.
IF Gov. Palin doesn’t run (I believe that she will), I’ll back Bolton or Cain over anybody else.
Mediocre is a word that seems to have affixed itself to Rick Perry. Mediocre student...mediocre governor...mediocre candidate.
Maybe Perry can borrow a slogan from Jimmy Carter’s 1980 campaign:
“If not the best, at least not the worst.”
(Carter’s autobiography, penned before his Presidency, was entitled, “Why Not the Best?”)
Surprise, surprise! Another palinista hit piece against another conservative. You people aren't just delusional you're destructive to the aims of conservatives!
Amen to all you say.
Not that anyone can read it without formatting! Shame on you.
Read my tagline.
Perry is a terrible choice, but anything is better than Obama, and Perry probably has the looks and demeanor to fool enough stupid voters.
That’s what we’ve come to.
Perry is more popular outside of Texas than here where we know him well.
Then your only candidate in the Primary is Bachmann. She is the only candidate that has addressed the immigration issue.
“At the same time he seeks to share the stage at TEA Party events, always ready to throw out more red meat for the crowd, but seems much less than sincere in his stance by the time he arrives back at his office.”
I agree
I am a Texan. I’d vote for Perry in a heartbeat over that forced down our throat Romney. I see so many posts bashing Perry. He hasn’t been perfect and has some flaws. Being an Aggie he can’t help it.
Been here for just 12 years? Already calling yourself a Texan?
Some of us do not want to vote for the lesser of two CINOs.
Numbers USA gives her a B+ rating. Not perfect but far better than the D- they give Perry.
After reading the article Ron Paul has my vote for today only!!!(wink, wink)
I am not a Perry supporter either. For your reasons and others. Perry is not a conservative, he may be a republican..but he is no conservative. He is not a proponent of free market values and individualism. As you have pointed out, he has a tendency to lean towards crony capitalism rather then embracing a free market perspective putting the people’s needs before his own. He is not what we need in DC....we need a TRUE conservative, someone whose needs are reflective of constitutional preservation and steering the country back to an embrace of the American dream....and rugged individualism. Perry is not the answer... plus for him to tout Texas’ economic fortunes as his doing is again another big fallacy b/c the governor in Texas actually wields very little power comparatively...
Really funny story about that one. Millions (and I did say millions) of dollars were spent by people lobbying to ‘have’ the thing built on their property. Then almost instantly, millions of dollars were being spent to have it ‘not’ put on people's property.
What happened you say?
Well, it's like this. Historically, when a highway was built in Texas, access roads were built along side of it. If the highway came through your property, the remaining property along the access roads soon became like gold. Gas Stations, restaurants, car dealerships, etc came bearing bags of cash. There are numerous stories in Texas about how people used money or connections to get a highway moved to their property and off of their neighbor's.
There's only one problem with access roads. Soon, as everything builds up along them, adding lanes to the highway becomes almost impossible. The expense goes through the roof. So finally Texas, like many other states, figured out the answer - no more access roads.
When it was announced that the Trans Texas Corridor would have NO access roads, it hit like an explosion. We own property slightly to the east of the proposed route. For two years we had people coming around (neighbors and the like) telling us how we needed to hire a lobbyist to get the road moved to our property. After the announcement was made about no access roads, the same people were coming around wanting us to chip in to hire a lobbyist to make sure it did NOT come through our property.
(And for the record, I really don't have an opinion as to whether the thing was a good idea or not, other than to say that the existing road system is getting pretty crowded.)
Disgusting as well. I for one am getting damned sick and tired of seeing every potential GOP candidate who's not named palin get slimed every day!
Now that was a long, but paragraphed post. I read the entire thing.
I thank you for the wisdom you bring to us, as a Texan, living out Perrys governorship.
For me it’s Sarah or bust. Period, end of story. If our country wants to take it to hell, so be it.
I’ll die on my feet rather than on my knees.
