Is Chris Wallace taking a beating in the press & blogs this morning?
me

He deserves it!

Newt was right to attack him and his line of questions. The audience agreed.

This wasn't his tv show. People wanted to hear the candidates discuss important issues.

You embarrassed yourself, Chris. (Though Newt did a good job of making you look like a jerk)

Susan Ferrechio did the best job of any of them.

“He couldn’t shine Brit Hume’s or Tony Snow’s shoes.”

Agree!

“You could see Chris desperately scrambling mentally to recover after Newt smacked him.
But Newt was correct, we wanted to hear their ideas for America not to watch them squirm trying to answer childish questions more suited to “The View” than a serious venue. “

Exactly.
Unfortunately, the media is all talking about the fireworks last night, so we can expect more of this crap in the coming debates for ratings’ sake.

I've never been a fan of Chris Wallace. He couldn’t shine Brit Hume's or Tony Snow's shoes.

Chrissy is 5'3" of pure demonRAT asskisser.

He is his dad's son and the fact that FOX hired him as a "neutral" newsman, is a blotch on FOX.

He is a smarmy, nasty little newspimp and would fit right back into any of the over the air networks.

i agree - Repubs need to deal with questions like this in primary season so the candidate is ready for election season. everyone knows where the press is coming from: it’s up to the candidate to learn how to handle this stuff.

I disagree again....AND....these questions are preparing the candidates for similar questions in future debates with Democrats.

I heard far more substance in the questions this time.

I don’t care for Ed Rollins at all. But he’s a street fighter, so he knows how to prepare his candidate to take the personal assaults. Bachmann’s ‘mutual respect’ blather last night was a perfect example of that.

Your so right .

Christina has always been a Dem party operative who considered herself so Clever and smart.
Its the SNIDE ELITE comments and facial expressions that give them away every time .
Christina only big worry is keeping on the DC Dem Party cocktail party list !

Newt smacked em around and they looked shocked that
they were actually challenged.
FOX News left wing underbelly was showing last night.
FOX News staff donated and voted for Obama and the Dems in 2008 just like the rest of the DNC media complex.

I didn't see all of the Republican debate on Fox News but I did see clips and watched the Sean Hannity post-debate show where he interviewed some of the candidates about the debate. Apparently, questions were asked that were provocative and designed to put the candidates on the spot, also known as 'gotcha!' questions. From the clips, I gathered that Chris Wallace was chided by Newt Gingrich for his question about Newt losing his senior staff and what that says about Gingrich as an executive. In the post-debate interview with Hannity, Newt made the point that he felt the media spends too much time on 'inside baseball' stuff and not enough on substantive issues. He believes that few Americans really care about the kind of 'gotcha! questions Wallace was asking. Of course, it's obvious that Newt was a bit embarrassed by the question and had an ulterior motive for his rebuke to Wallace but, even so, Newt does have a point.

In a televised political debate with liberal moderators, these kinds of 'gotcha!' questions are almost de rigueur so the candidates should be prepared for them but in this instance, I think Chris Wallace deserved Newt's rebuke. Of course, Newt Gingrich is known for his short fuse and aversion to criticism, another aspect of his personality that often obviates his intelligent approach to weighty matters of state. Newt might be a good candidate for a advisory position in a conservative Republican administration but as a presidential candidate, he is far back in the pack and likely to stay there. As for Chris Wallace, I'm sure he was asking what he thought were relevant questions and, in the process, grooming himself to be chosen to moderate a presidential debate after the GOP convention, when the Republican candidate has been chosen. That probably won't happen but for the candidates in Iowa last night, thanks to Chris Wallace, they got a taste of what to expect if any one of them should capture the Republican presidential nomination: hardball politics.

Well, you're in the minority there.

It's unlikely that Chris Wallace sat in his office and intentionally wrote questions to help prepare the candidates for the tough questions later down the road.

He was looking to embarrass... he was trying to get some soundbites so they could be used as promotions.

It backfired on Fox horribly. And I am a BIG Fox Fan. I only watch Fox News.

Newt came out looking strong. (that’s the consensus)

Newt was the winner (that’s the consensus)

FoxNews was the biggest loser. (that’s what I’ve been reading and hearing)

Michelle Bachmann was just....okay. Nothing big.

The media claims Romney won. I saw a fake when I saw Romney.

Pawlenty was the second biggest loser next to Fox. he attacked Bachmann.

Cain was good. I’d put him as number 2 or 3 as a winner.

"""what is the evidence that he can build a team to run the Executive Branch?""""

Because then he would be "President". That's how.

Romney did not look comfortable.
Cain looked a little out of his league. I generally like him, but he’s not ready for prime time - he defintiely needs work on foreign affairs. Maybe next election cycle.

I thought Santorum came off well (when they finally got around to asking him a question - what was it 40mins into the debate before he got his 1st question?), and though I don’t like Huntsman, he actually came off pretty well too.

I don’t know why you people are surprised by this?

Wallace is limousine liberal and the son of the leftist Mike Wallace from 60 Minutes.

Do you really think he is Conservative or will treat Obama the same way?

Newt gave the best performance of the entire night and he made Wallace look like the cheap pseudo-objective he is. Newt was right to call Chris Wallace down on his questions. Wallace was trying to stir up controversy and unfortunately he succeeded with Pawlenty and Bachmann.

When Wallace asked Pawlenty that first question, Pawlenty should have shoved it back in his face by saying something like,"I'm not here to attack my fellow Republicans, I am here to contrast myself to Obama and to lay out my own record of accomplishment. I will leave the dirt dishing to Democrats."

Pawlenty looked desperate and bad and unfortunately Bachmann allowed herself to be dragged into the dirt with him.

Newt clearly won that debate and once more proved himself to be the smartest person on the stage . . . too bad I don't trust him and can't support him. He needs to be part of our government, just not the President . . . maybe State or Defense.
