Palin Interview to Univision
Univision ^ | 2 weeks before 2008 election

Posted on 08/15/2011 5:20:37 AM PDT by normy

Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska? I don't know, I don't know. That's a good question.

As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported? There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant -there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants- not only economically is that just an impossibility but that's not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.

Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants? No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They've got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.

To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants? I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.

If you want to see where a real conservative stands on the border issue, check out post 4.

Then go find the links to Perry's panderings to La Raza.

Two different approaches. I'm not sure we can trust Perry to be anything more than W on this issue.

You are intentionally misleading in your selective quotes. Is that how Perry will act and govern? How would that be different from Obama???

So she is a party hack or what she just says what she has to to get elected? What is her story. Palin doesn't have 60% of the U.S. Mexico border in her state. She borders wilderness. It's easy to have no record and talk tough when you don't deal with the actual problem.

Trust me, Obama and his minions have this interview too.

Why should illegals follow the rules when they get free stuff? Free healthcare, free food, free educations and can keep voting for the gravy train to roll in.

And to boot, they don’t have to pay taxes.

Only way to fight it is close the borders and enforce existing laws. Cut the anchor baby stuff too. No kid should be considered an American if the parents sneak in and are not citizens.

If there is a guest worker program, whoever hires them gets the bill for their healthcare while here and is held accountable for their return home.

Truth is, I don’t even know why we need a guest worker program. We have millions of unemployed Americans who can get to work. Too bad if they don’t like the job type. If you want to eat, you can take a job you may not like and be productive.

Look at my homepage. Yes I am from Texas and yes I voted for Perry as did most Texans. Perry beat KBH by 20 points in the primary a real Rino D.C. insider with support from the Bush clan

I know this will bring a lot of bashing, but I will vote for Obama if Perry is the nominee. I would rather fight and face a clear cut enemy than have a B.S.ing artist undercutting me and selling me out in back room deals while saying all the “Right” things in public. Please research what Perry has actually done to undercut the Tea Party, even as recent as the latest election. I am willing to research ANY canditate and admit to their faults. I do not understand why ANYONE on THIS site would refuse to see the truth unless they had a hidden agenda. Fess UP!

...Republican Gov. Rick Perry earned applause from the crowd [at a meeting of the Texas Border Coalition] when he said strategic fencing along the border makes sense but the idea of a complete wall or fence is “preposterous.”

Instead, he wants the federal government to establish a guest-worker program that will allow the government to track workers, he said.

...Perry was asked after his speech whether it was a good or bad idea to do away with citizenship as a birthright [via proposed Texas legislation].

“I think any of those types of legislation that create divisions are bad,” he said. “We need to look at ways to be bringing people together rather than driving wedges between them.”
That failure, combined with Perry’s comments that the U.S.-Mexico border fence was “idiocy” and that efforts to deny citizenship to U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants are “divisive,” have rung in the ears of anti-illegal immigration conservatives.

If we do not control illegal immigration, I guarantee this country is gone. Rick Perry is another George W. Bush on Illegal Immigration.

Perry has said that the Border Fence is Stupid,

Perry has said that he is against denying citizenship to baby’s born in the U.S. of illegan immigrants,

Perry is for providing in-state tuition benefits to children of illegal immigrants. (That is an incentive for the Mexican illegals to keep their children in school in Texas, knowing that they will get what only U.S. Citizens in Texas receive)

We had George W. Bush, who was awful on illegal immigration, we do not need George W. Bush Jr., or Rick Perry.

Just because we want to get rid of Obama, does not mean we need to elect a loser on illegal immigration, an issue, as important as the economy.

We don’t get tough on Illegal Immigration, we are done as a country.

Rick Perry will never get my vote, because of his weakness on illegal immigration and I am an American of Hispanic Heritage.

These are not selective, they are all in one interveiw without breaking it up.

I don't even care what Palin said about it. I care that she is held to some strange conservative purity because her supporters hope, hope, hope she will run. In the mean time they are using tactics to lie or distort Perry's record on every Perry thread that comes out.

You can't call Perry a pandering hack when Palin either supports partial amnesty or was just being a good soldier.

No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty

RE :"I know this will bring a lot of bashing, but I will vote for Obama if Perry is the nominee"

LOL, I remember in 2007 threatening Republicans that I would vote for Hillary if McCain got the nomination. Hillary was pretty hated at the time by them (as I disliked McCain) and Obama was an unknown.

Still glad McCain is not president. Still digesting Perry as he is lesser known nationally than McCain was,

You are intentionally misleading in your selective quotes.

Curious would you say the same about the ‘selective quotes’ that are posted repeatedly about the other candidates? I agree with your assessment but I think they all should be taken for what they are; opposition political tactics and disregarded because of that.

“It’s easy to have no record and talk tough when you don’t deal with the actual problem.”
Perry talks tough about the border and look at his track record. He actually has the problem and he’s too busy
pandering to do anything about it. Perry was lucky in his
elections with who he had to run against, a bunch of whackos
and loony women.

We must say to every Texas child learning in a Texas classroom, “we don’t care where you come from, but where you are going, and we are going to do everything we can to help you get there.” And that vision must include the children of undocumented workers. - Rick Perry

So Palin living in an insulated state of 700,000 people with a border to Canadian wilderness, that receives the 3rd most federal welfare of any state in the Union, uses that welfare money plus taxing oil profits of companies in her state, gives her a solid level of experience to deal with the problems America faces?

That's preposterous. It's easy to talk a good game. Man I could beat Dirk Nowitziki in a game of one on one because I was a pretty good highschool basketball player.

Perry operates at a very high level. Palin does not.

Obama isn’t going to use a pro-illegal clip against Palin.

1) Why don’t you understand the basics of presidential campaigns:
2) The top of the ticket sets the agenda.
3) When we’re stuck with a RINO at the top it is good that a really conservative is willing to take the #2 spot.
4) Such a conservative will inevitably have to trim his/her sails somewhat to be a team player during the campaign.

I know other FReepers have posted such basics in response to your idiocy on this dozens of times, so it is a wilful denial of the facts of politics that you are displaying here yet again.

On the other hand, I agree that Palin needs to come out strong on illegal immigration and not play the coy games that 90% of even GOP pols play. I like that she stood with Jan Brewer in AZ and I hope she comes out straightforwardly on the issue after she announces.

Any concerns on illegal immigration? Maybe you feel open borders are a problem? Well, Rick Perry has quite an answer for you. His signature legislation was the Trans-Texas Corridor, where Texas would use its eminent domain to take a mile-wide swath of land from the Texas border to the Oklahoma border and turn it over to a Spanish company for a highway, rail corridor. And, anyone from Mexico could travel into Texas, with no customs check until they hit Kansas.

If you like open borders, you will love Rick Perry.

And the Arizona immigration law passed last year? “It's not for Texas,” says Perry.
