TV Weather Dudes are getting out of Control - Vanity
personal experience ^ | 9/5/2011 | DJlaysitup

Man-o-man...this is getting annoying. Here in North Georgia we are having some weather. Basically it's sprinkling with an occasional light breeze. Apparently there are some localized storms with heavy rain and strong winds. So instead of the usual approach of streaming the watches/warnings below the normal programming (with the occasional beep-beep-beep attention getter) - the weather dudes have taken over the channels and are making it out to be Weather WWIII.

I am the last guy to diminish the danger of a tornado (lived through one) - but this weather paranoia is getting annoying. They are "urgently" reporting rain and thunder and conditions that could cause a tornado.

I realize it's "better safe than sorry" - but this should be a local warning. If I'm wrong I'll eat crow, but I get the feeling that we are suddenly being made afraid of commonplace weather occurances.

It’s all about ratings... crap like that attracts ratings - otherwise, they would not do it.

I agree. They panic when it rains or snows and they panic when it doesn’t rain or snows. It’s weird. I’ve heard them complain that there was no snowfall. Once it snows, they start their crap about not being “out of the woods yet”.

We are all victims.
We are all pawns in their games.
We are all subject the whims of fate.
We are powerless to help ourselves.
Even the weather conspires against us and wishes to do us harm.

Only allegiance to an all-powerful government can protect us.

In other words: Vote Democrat, or suffer from a Katrina-type disaster.

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken

Not saying tornados are imaginary but the more hype the better.

Well, here in East Texas, it is basically WWIII with all of the fires breaking out and I’m glad the Weather Dudes and Dudettes are on TV every few minutes with wind updates, etc.

Ratings aren’t the only motivation — don’t forget that the special effects are free. (At least to the TV stations — everyone else has to pay dearly.)

Weather reporting is definitely a pet peeve of mine. They build up a storm of sorts like it is the end of the world. I especially cannot stand when we are going to get some snow. I mean 4 inches of snow. Then they offer helpful tips to what their viewers who they obviously think are morons. For example, bundle up your clothing and wear a hat. Wear gloves. Use a shovel for your driveway. DUH! Then I wait for what I especially hate: The weather man with the RULER. NOT THE RULER!! They measure the accumulation of snow. Look viewers, it is now FOUR AND A HALF INCHES!!! I hope the DECK doesn’t collapse under the weight..... yep, drives me crazy!

Agreed. Hysteria attracts viewers and thus sells soap.

Shepherd Smith is the worst of the hysterics. I can't watch Fox News anymore during the day.

Yesterday they showed a reporter in Biloxi in bright sunshine talking about how bad the storm was because there was a dock about 3 inches under water!

Here in Chicago we had a storm two days ago that dumped so much rain that it flooded underneath my sealed door at my store flooding the front of it.

Shep Smith is an embarrassment he was screeching about the hurricane and how it was pretty much Armageddon. When every reporter they showed was in sunshine!!!!

The media ignores you because remember Texas is fly over country. When Chicago got nailed with the worst blizzard in 30 years the media didn't cover it. However, if they get an inch of snow in Times Square it's a "Fox News Alert".

It's like ESPN they only care about the teams on the Eastern Seaboard and the LA Lakers the rest of the country is irrelevant to them.

Read the book “ State of Fear “.
Its all about this scam of the Govt, Media, and Big Business work together to keep the public is constant state of panic to control them.

On Friday the media was screaming here that Lee could become a Hurricane and recommended everyone to stay inside and watch them and they would tell us when we could leave.
The arrogance and need to control was unreal .
