TV Weather Dudes are getting out of Control - Vanity
personal experience ^ | 9/5/2011 | DJlaysitup

Man-o-man...this is getting annoying. Here in North Georgia we are having some weather. Basically it's sprinkling with an occasional light breeze. Apparently there are some localized storms with heavy rain and strong winds. So instead of the usual approach of streaming the watches/warnings below the normal programming (with the occasional beep-beep-beep attention getter) - the weather dudes have taken over the channels and are making it out to be Weather WWIII.

I am the last guy to diminish the danger of a tornado (lived through one) - but this weather paranoia is getting annoying. They are "urgently" reporting rain and thunder and conditions that could cause a tornado.

TV Weather Dudes are getting out of Control

I'll say this gently, FRiend.

They have been calling for rain here for the last two days and they have been beautiful.

Well actually my point is that 10 million people in North Georgia should not have to turn off their TV to get away from this rampant "storm coverage". In fact, it is better for all if they keep the regular programming on and just stream the warnings at the bottom for those in the affected areas. The weather folks have just gone "hog-wild" and are explaining everything they learned in college to the Nth degree. They are wearing us out.

Now you know what it’s like to live in the Midwest!

Back when all cars were rear-wheel drive, hardy Minnesotans barely called out the snowplows for 6 inches of snow. Now, 4 inches of snow is an emergency causing cancellations! Summer temps are emergencies too.

but this weather paranoia is getting annoying. .. If you are at the bottom of the “News” reporting hierarchy, you have to make the news, not report it. Remember the news broad that was sitting in a life raft in “4 foot of flood” and two guys walked by her and we didn’t see their butts?

But that change gets precious after a while. At least it will buy a couple of cans of cheap dog and cat food from the Dollar Store for the Wolfie and the black street cat (my two best friends).

In Roswell we got light rain ...no thunder...but I understand just 10 miles north in Canton they had a fair amount of damage with injuries from a couple of tornados...

Weather is funny, when the severe weather is isolated but part of a larger storm it’s hard to understand the hysterics unless you are in the random isolated area that’s hit....

Look at it this way:

With the prolonged drouth we've had here in Georgia, Ken and other TV Weather types haven't been on stage much lately.

They're making up for it today.

I'm a native Okie. We hardly worried about storms until somebody hollered "Here it comes!" Then you'd dive for the cellar.

I live in Hurricane Alley. Mother Nature is always kicking our butts. If it ain’t a hurricane, it’s a tornado. Or Two. But before the electricity goes out and we have to break out the boombox and the batteries, we’re watching TV. And there he is, the Idiot In The Raincoat. He’s that guy who stands out in the middle of the storm with one hapless cameraman, long after everybody else has either hunkered down or hauled ass. It’s raining sideways, he’s fighting to stay on his feet, and debris the size of SUV’s is flying past his head. And the only reason he’s out there in the middle of the storm is to let us know that he’s out there in the middle of the storm. What a moron. Who came up with that stupid tradition, anyway?

Yep. The Weather Channel is unwatchable any more. Wall to wall, 24-hour, hand-wringing HYPE.

Everyone should turn off their TVs as a boycott of all that is wrong in America today. Stop enabling them.
