A little movie help?...
TV | 9/6/2011 | DGHoodini

Trying to locate the name of a relatively recent movie: The plot line as I remember it from the ad, was that an ordinary Joe, accidental takes a "pill" that causes him to be able to use a large percentage of his brain, in a conscious state, and makes him the smartest man on the planet. The person who made the pill, takes umbrage, and becomes the antagonist.

I've been trying out all the permutations of key worhds on IMDB to no joy. Any help appreciated.

“Phenomenon” without the scientology overtones, wasn’t bad either... even john revolta did a pretty good job there. Course is fit part of their motif for removal and “clearance” of the mind of alien beings.... well, etc.

I thought the movie was going to be a slam on Big Pharma, but surprisingly it wasn't. I thought it wasn't a pro-drug message, although I found it ironic that the drug in the movie is called "nzt", which I thought was a play off of "azt".

I thought so too. It went down the middle IMHO. If they really wanted it to lean left politically, they would have injected it into the last scenes where he was running for office but surprisingly, it didn’t. Plus libtard De Niro whom I hate gets to die slowly and eventually.

It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

I DO have a neighbor who looks that nice.

Moreover, she’s brilliant, too - a graduate student at M.I.T.

However, inasmuch as I’m over sixty years of age, it’s a punishment on a par with Tantalus in Hades.

[smartest man on the planet]

The first thing came to mind was that Algore movie, I forgot the name if I ever knew it to begin with.

Heck, my taste in movies is pretty wide, but I have trouble stomaching a lot of the stuff that comes out now.

I can’t worry about what others do or don’t like...I would never get to watch anything.

I like “Pulp Fiction”. Others hate it. I like “Liar Liar”. Some detest it. My favorite movie is “The Best Years of Our Lives”, and when I mention it, I get blank looks.

I just have to go with what entertains me. I don’t watch television, but I like movies.

FRIED GREEN TOMATOES - I’m pretty sure that’s the movie. It’s either that or the Yogi Bear movie.

“... it’s pro-drug because he still used it till the end”.

Now you have me confused. I thought at the end, he wasn’t using it (when he was running for political office). Granted, I watched it late one night and could have been very tired.

It was “implied” in the very end when he spoke Italian to the waitress and his fiancee asked ‘when did you start speaking Italian?” and he smirked..

"Flowers for Algernon?"

Thank you, my first thought. We read that in the 6th grade.
