Jacqueline Kennedy Reveals That JFK Feared an LBJ Presidency
ABC News ^ | 09/09/2011 | Rick Klein

President John F. Kennedy was so "worried for the country" about the prospect that Vice President Lyndon Johnson might succeed him as president that he'd begun having private conversations about who should become the Democratic Party's standard-bearer in 1968, Jacqueline Kennedy recalled in a series of oral-history interviews recorded in early 1964.

She said her husband believed strongly that Johnson shouldn't become president and, in the months before his death in November 1963, he'd begun talking to his brother, Robert Kennedy, about ways to maneuver around Johnson in 1968.

"Bobby told me this later, and I know Jack said it to me sometimes. He said, 'Oh, God, can you ever imagine what would happen to the country if Lyndon was president?'" she said.

The president gave no serious consideration to dropping Johnson from the ticket in 1964, Jacqueline Kennedy recalled. But he did have some talks about how to avoid having Johnson run for president in 1968, at the end of what would have been Kennedy's second term, she said.

"He didn't like that idea that Lyndon would go on and be president because he was worried for the country," she said. "Bobby told me that he'd had some discussions with him. I forget exactly how they were planning or who they had in mind. It wasn't Bobby, but somebody. Do something to name someone else in '68."

Jacqueline Kennedy's recollections, in a series of interviews conducted by writer-historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. and kept private by the Kennedy family until this month, depict a distant and at times disturbing relationship between a president and the man who ultimately did succeed him in office upon his assassination.

You're asking about something that never would have happened. Scandal was something for city, county, and state govts. The govt in DC was Mt. Rushmore. The only scandal you learned in school was Teapot Dome and that was what you'd call today an outlier. My best friend's mom knew all about JFK's dalliences. She was a night manager of a spiffy NYC hotel and JFK's arrangements, including the secret tunnel in and out of the St. Regis were known to all. It was a different time.

It changed with Watergate, not because of the crime, but because of the POTUS and the war.Dems hated Nixon and lefty dems hated Nam. That was the impetus for making Watergate a big deal

. Nixon was about to end the Democratic Party as we knew it. He had the south and west and was coopting their ideas and enlarging the role and power of govt. It would not be long before a 50 year GOP reign would be starting. Once Watergate happened that opened the gates for every pipsqueak Journalism grad to think he could change the world. Now those journos have abandoned any pretense of objectivity and formed the alliance with the American Left.

Working great for liberals, minorities continue to vote D in large numbers for handouts...those that take handouts have managed to figure out how to live without working.

Of course those that provide the money for the handouts are not doing as well.

“$7 Trillion down the rat hole and a higher poverty rate than when he started! “

Maybe so, maybe not. Some might disagree.

The fact is that the WAR ON POVERTY has been just as effective as the 100 year WAR ON DRUGS. ..........and some people, lots of people, think the WAR ON DRUGS is great.

“$7 Trillion down the rat hole and a higher poverty rate than when he started! “

pretty much the idea from the beginning.

Johnson had to support the Civil Rights Act because it was Kennedy’s baby (although almost word-for-word the same bills as Eisenhower and the Republicans tried to pass in the ‘50s). He managed to strongarm enough Democrat votes by promising to get the blacks back to the Democrat plantation. The Great Society welfare bills did just that.

I’m sure he is very pleased by the results, maybe even a little shocked at how easily it worked. Democrats are kicking themselves because if they had just allowed their slaves to vote when the country was founded, slavery might still be legal and omnipresent.

Of course, nowadays their plantations raise votes not cotton, and they’ve figured out how to keep their slaves and have non-Democrats pay for it, so maybe it’s a wash.

By that time JFK knew LBJ was a freaking communist. Long before the assassination, I remember my Dad talking about LBJ, who was our neighbor right down the road. One of my Dad’s best friends was the foreman on the ranch.

They had long conversations talking about LBJ’s belief in a central government economic plan. He was also a terrific fan of Otto Bismark’s welfare state and how LBJ’s first argument in the Senate was against a civil rights bill shoring up black American’s right to vote and seek employment.

In early 1965 this friend told my Dad that the CIA had questioned him about the comings and goings at the ranch. That they were investigating his ties to communists who were working in the US creating chaos in the anti-civil rights movement and the anti-Vietnam movement. And it was LBJ himself who actually starting spreading the rumor that MLK was communist.

I know that the locals were experiencing great unrest at the deeds of Texas’ favorite son. But he covered himself by keeping Texans happy by bringing in the many new military bases and of course bringing in NASA. By this time Lady Bird had already moved herself into the Towers in Austin and separated herself and her businesses from him. And he had moved his ‘assistant’ into the ranch house that the guys had dubbed the bolshevik and they started secretly keeping records of her private meetings at the ranch.

That was one dastardly old man. When he had his last heart attack in 1973 my Mom was a nurse at the hospital. When the helicopter came in, the ‘bolshevik’ fell out of it and busted her knee wide open and broke the kneecap, Mom said the hospital doctor just stitched it back up and didn’t even x-ray it. lol LBJ was already dead and he wasn’t going to toady to the commie.

Two years after his death, my younger brother’s after school job was working for the local florist who was commissioned on President’s Day to take a wreath and put it on his grave, they went over there and couldn’t find the grave. They called one of the caretakers who came over and said, “You’re standing on his head!” When Lady Bird finally decided to put in a grave marker, it was a very modest granite stone, and everyone laughed that there was no great presidential edifice built there. She planted him in the family plot and was done.

Seymour Hersh claims that Kennedy was planning to select Stuart Symington of Missouri as his running mate but was blackmailed into picking LBJ by J. Edgar Hoover.

Would a Kennedy-Symington ticket have beaten Nixon? Nixon might have carried Texas but that wouldn't have been enough to give him the victory (Missouri went for Kennedy anyway). Possibly more of the Southern electoral votes would have gone to Harry F. Byrd so without LBJ on the ticket possibly the election would have gone into the House of Representatives.

So, what skeletons were in JFK’s closet that makes him so eminently blackmailable?

The expanded Zapruder film going around clearly shows the President’s driver shooting a pistol over his should complete with casing ejection. Mind blowing.

Hersh has 9 or 10 pages in his book on how LBJ forced Kennedy to pick him for VP. The gist of it is LBJ knew about JFK's womanizing (from Hoover) and used that to blackmail him.

Kennedy narrowly lost California in 1960. Hersh thinks he would have carried it with Symington on the ticket because Symington was popular there (he had been Secretary of the Air Force in the Truman administration) and that would have offset any losses in the South if Johnson had not been on the ticket.

Johnson had his own plan, and it worked ?

LBJ (and Hoover) led the conspiracy that killed JFK but LBJ's main motive was to remain out of jail for murder and corruption. See Barr McClellan's book BLOOD, MONEY & POWER...

If LBJ and Hoover did lead the conspiracy, you'd expect to see witnesses who saw things like a bullet hole in the windshield that the official photographs don't show, unanimous observations from Parkland Hospital in Dallas that say they saw a massive hole in the right rear of JFK's head but official autopsy photographs don't show etc.

If you doubt this, listen to this Parkland Doctor tell you about the massive hole in the right posterior of JFK's head. This television interview was supposed to have been "lost".....

The CONSPIRACY has many holes in it but Americans are fools enough to think the US Government and their lap dog media are going to tell them the truth. Now that is funny.
