Herman Cain hits back at Morgan Freeman for calling Tea Party 'racist'

Herman Cain is hitting back at Morgan Freeman for calling the Tea Party racist.

The Republican presidential candidate called the Oscar-winning actor’s eyebrow-raising remarks “short-sighted” on Friday. "Most of the people that are criticizing the Tea Partiers about having a racist element, they have never been to a Tea Party," Cain told Fox News.

Freeman, who endorsed Obama in 2007, created a firestorm when he told CNN’s Piers Morgan earlier this week that conservative opposition to the President has enflamed racism in America. He added the Tea Partiers have the mentality of "Screw the country, we're going to do whatever we can to get this black man out of here…It is a racist thing."

Despite the criticism, Cain said he wasn’t offended by Freeman’s comments. "Name calling is something that is going to continue in this because they don’t know how to stop this movement and this movement is making a big difference in politics," said Cain, the former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza.

At a GOP presidential debate on Thursday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry said - if he could - he would pair Cain with ex-House Speaker Newt Gingrich to form his ideal running mate.

Cain was flattered.

"I’ve even seen some of the phrases that I used in the first debate being used in some of the later debates," said Cain. "I’m ok with that; imitation is the best form of flattery."

But Cain trails behind several of the other presidential hopefuls. He stands in fifth place, with 7% support, according to the latest Rasmuseen Reports survey of likely GOP primary voters. Ahead of him are Perry, with 28% support, Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, with 24%, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 9%, and Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann at 8%.

Face it, Hermann Cain is just awesome. Morgan Freeman, OTOH, is just a tool. Cain could help himself if he did even more of this.

The funny thing is, people support who they think can win.

Like with bummer, he had no support until there was a moderately good showing in one state, then he suddenly had massive support.

It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I really like Cain. He explains things well and clearly. He just doesn’t bemoan an issue. He offers a solution. Voters will like that. So far he’s been my favorite. But there still is a long way to go.

I’d be thrilled with Cain, Bachmann, DeMint, or Palin. There are others I could learn to tolerate. Then there is Romney. If Romney is the nominee, I don’t see enough difference from Obama to care, and I’ll write in Palin. I hope it doesn’t come to that.

Ann Coulter tweeted - “I believe @THEHermanCain CAN win if “pundits” would stop saying: “We love him, but...” #justsaying” Mark Levin said the same thing on Facebook the other day, and urged people to take Cain seriously for President.

Herman could vault to the front with a few key endorsements. i.e. if Newt, Santorum, Bachman and Johnson withdrew and threw their support behind Cain.

It could happen. It should happen;)

Hey morgan, just keep molesting your granddaughter and leave the deep thinking to those who are capable of it. Like Herman Cain.

I always thought he was an excellent actor.. I looked past his political differences.

I was reading about this situation yesterday and leaned that he married his step-granddaughter?!?! WTH?!

Says he started dating her when she was 17yo :O

BTW, I like Cain.. he needs a little more experience (AND has much better understanding of economics than 99% of politicians... we need to flush OUT the plititions and put in people who will change things back to the way they are supposed to be), but he is MORE Than ready compared to the usurper we have now.

The only thing racist in this campaign is the mindless adoration the Progressives have for 0’s simply because of his skin color.

If there were no such hackneyed role as the Magic Negro, Morgan Freeman would be out of a job.

Cain came from nothing and became a very successful business man. Obama had it all handed to him. This may sound like something a liberal would say, but I bet Cain could spot Obama fifty points on the IQ scale easily.

If she's not going to run, a Palin endorsement might work wonders for Herman Cain, my number one choice if she's not running.

My fear is that all those you mentioned plus Palin will be in the race, allowing the most liberal Romney to sashay away with the nomination, with the help of democrats in open primary states such as my own.
