Villager Beheads 'Witch' for Revenge

A villager at Hamargora near Goaltore beheaded an elderly woman on Tuesday suspecting her to be a "witch". Biswajit Mudi, the accused, who allegedly killed Piyari Mudi (62) after suspecting the latter had black magic power, is still at large.

Police said the incident took place around 11am when Piyari went to a jungle to collect woods near her residence along with her daughter-in-law Puspa. Puspa reportedly told police that when she went to another side in jungle leaving her mother-in-law alone, Biswajit attacked Piyari with a sharp weapon. She rushed to the spot on hearing screams of her mother-in-law and found Biswajit fleeing. The beheaded body of Piyari was lying in a pool of blood. After being informed, a police team rushed to the spot.

According to police, Biswajit's son had died four months ago after suffering from fever for a long time. A local tantrik told him that his son died due to witchcraft. Driven by superstitious beliefs, Biswajit suspected Pyari was behind the death of his son.

"We have received a complaint that Biswajit killed Pyari suspecting her a witch. A raid is being conducted to nab him," said Anish Sarkar, DSP operation.

Bush did it!

Why not? Everything else in the world that has gone wrong has been blamed on him, so why not include the little things?

Hey, when Axelrod, Plouffe and Jarrett find out about this murder, you can be sure they will work it into an Obama speech.

In fact, they might also blame Jewish janitors for it.

Helen Thomas surely will - blame it on the Joos.

Every time these stories surface, I'm reminded of my time in Africa, where local “witches” are put to death with regularity. The underlying reason isn't the practice of witchcraft, but rather the possession of property. These “witches” are usually elderly widows with no family. Having outlived husbands and children, they usually amass a small fortune in land and chattel, coveted by the entire village. Local custom dictates that property belonging to a decedent without surviving family must be divided among the villagers. Accordingly, the charge of “witchcraft” becomes merely a pretext for murdering the old lady, and stealing her property.

If she weighs the same as a duck, she’s made of wood. And therefore ... a witch!
