Dominating the rumor mill this week: the alleged impending divorce of Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher. The tabloid tale has played out in the typical way: things were jumpstarted by a screaming Star cover (Star has long been on Kutcher's tail), TMZ dug up some relevant pics, and the Internet at large jumped on the bandwagon.
The classic age-gap couple has been plagued by this kind of stuff before.
At this round's outset, there was no reason to believe Moore or Kutcher were planting or fueling the rumor. And maybe they aren't.
But for whatever reason, they're now deliberately keeping it alive.
There are ways to squash the gossip. When Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony split earlier this year, they got out ahead of the news cycle by issuing a statement. Conversely, when Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith had the spotlight turned on them, they quickly denied the claims and headed outside to be photographed holding hands.
And Kutcher himself has had his rep step in on cheating accusations before.
There's been no word from the rep this week.
What there has been is cryptic tweets from both Moore and Kutcher, who both have a notoriously large legion of followers.
Moore went with a proverb on anger on Tuesday. Kutcher allowed his Spotify to do the talking for him "Don't Believe The Hype" this morning.
So they're not shielding themselves from the story they're adding plot twists to it.
Kutcher doesn't need any help when it comes to "Two and a Half Men" press but we doubt you would have heard about the Lifetime film Moore directed without this.

I’d call him a gigolo, but that would give him an air of substance he doesn’t deserve.
Like the song says: “I used her, she used me.”
Funny how the night moves.
Surprised it lasted this long, but he has become a major star; and his relationship with Demi was a foundation.
Again? How many times have we heard this?
Kutcher reminds me of a Bob Dylan song. “Everybody must get stoned”
and in another scandal...

Ashton Kutcher represents perfectly the empty trash culture of America.
Demi Moore? Wasn’t she an actress or something, like back in the ‘80’s? I think she did some movie where she was like a Navy SEAL who worked as a stripper at night, or something.
Wasn’t she married to some guy who looks like Jerry Doyle but isn’t nearly as smart nor as good an actor?
I thought she had retired. Maybe it’s just that she wasn’t much of an actress anyway and no one will hire her.
Incredible since he is a "no talent" one dimensional bum. The man only play Kelso in a finite number of ways.
Their marriage is so open they’ve fallen out.
He wasn’t half bad in the Kevin
Costner film about the coast guard air rescue ........whatever it was called
A single flaming car wreck, or perhaps two flaming car wrecks are what is needed here.
He’s gotten too old for her liking. She’ll be trolling the graduate schools soon.
RE: Shell be trolling the graduate schools soon.
She should realize that even if she gets one grad school kid, he’ll simply be using her ( and her money ) until he does not need her anymore. She’ll just be getting a younger Ashton.
Poor Demi is going to be like Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard in a few years.
Oh well, however it turns out, it couldn’t happen to a better couple.
I’m gonna show how really bored I am by posting that I don’t care about either of these people.
