“This may not be the best picture for this thread”.

I didn’t notice it till you mentioned it. Eeek! However, it does show how precious little ones truly are and their innocence. Such a loss!

Never trust any dog too much with an infant.

When is the last time anyone heard of Labradors killing an infant. Doesn't happen.

News.Pit bulls kill toddler in West Haven
Published: Friday, September 30, 2011

New Haven Register

WEST HAVEN — An 18-month-old child was pronounced dead at Yale-New Haven Hospital Friday night after being attacked by pit bulls in an apartment, police said.

The dogs have been euthanized and the incident is under investigation, according to Sgt. Angelo Moscato.

“We won’t have answers from autopsy for a couple days, but the child from description severely injured by the animal,” Moscato said.

The toddler had been visiting the third-floor 127 Leete St. apartment, and it’s unclear if the tenants are friends or relatives of the child. Police said the tenants do own the three dogs.

During the visit, the dogs were put into another room, but somehow got out and found the child lying on the floor on a blanket in another room, Moscato said.

Moscato said it’s also unclear if the child was alone at the time that the dogs attacked and whether two or three of the dogs were involved. But police were told that after the attack, two dogs were seen standing near the child, who was bleeding, Moscato said. Those in the apartment then put the dogs in another room.

Police and paramedics were dispatched around 6:13 p.m. after receiving a call that a child had been bitten by a dog. When they arrived, the child was unconscious, and paramedics immediately took the toddler to Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to Moscato.

Typically, when a dog bites a person, its owner must decide if it should be quarantined or euthanized. Because of the severity of this case, the three dogs were euthanized Friday night, Moscato said. They will then be sent to the state police lab for rabies tests, a standard procedure in dog bite cases.

Why are ANY pitbulls—any dogs, really,—sharing space with a tiny infant. Dogs of any breed are unpredictable. Dogs of this breed of course are prone to attack, maim, kill. How sad.

I had a 210 lb. Saint Bernard and that dog was the most gentle dog with kids I have ever seen. My kids loved that dog so much.

Its not the dogs fault.

Shoot pit bull owners.

It’s their fault.

Regardless of the breed, it seems the child was left unattended in a small apartment. Idiocy.

We had a pit-bull mix years ago. He was a wonderful dog and good with everyone. He went on the construction jobsite everyday with my husband and would sleep under the truck. It was a sad day when we lost this dog... all of our friends and and family loved him. Loving dog and never mean. I think it had to do with the owners.

Even small dogs can hurt a child. It’s just a good idea to always supervise when small children and dogs are together. I would never even consider letting a child near a pit bull or a Chow.
