...I don’t want to step foot in a movie theater, let alone the creeps who sit behind your seat, waiting for you to put your pocketbook on the ground so they can steal it.

You needn't worry about that: If you put your pocketbook down, it will stick to the floor like glue. If it's a cheap theater, the urine smell drives most of the creeps off anyway.

I always keep my pocketbook on my lap. But I see so many stupid people putting theirs on the ground.

Here in Huntington, NY we had a rash of thieves stealing pocketbooks left on the ground.

No matter where I am, my pocketbook is ALWAYS as close to my body as physics can allow. And I will fight for it.

My pleasure. Stumbled across foreign flicks because of father-in-Law who had to leave Cuba. Havana used to show films from all over the globe and it never seemed strange to him to watch a film from Italy, Spain, etc...

Another great German flick is "The Tunnel". Almost as anti-communist as "Lives of Others".

I happen to love Korean flicks but they are CRAZY. Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance are not for the faint of heart.

I noticed that a few years back: if you saw the trailer, there was no reason to shell out for the movie.

The top actors used to take a "piece of the profits" until Hollywood's accounting swindles made sure the hit movies never "showed" a profit. The actors demand "up-front" money because the studios screwed so many of them for so long.

The economic downturn has lowered salaries being paid top actors because there are a lot more of them waiting around for a role.

The writing is a key challenge. Great actors cannot save a poor script.

The screenplay becomes the centerpiece of argument. Every line and every scene draws a million opinions. Often the great original script that attracted everyone to the project is re-written so many times on the demands of no-talent executives, it becomes the pure shit you see on the screen.

I know that has happened in a number of movies.

Everyone in Hollywood "knows" how to fix the script (usually not broken to begin with) and they rip it to shreds until it is garbage and the final product is lame and makes no sense.

You never see a masterpiece oil painting that was painted by a committee of no-talent assholes.

Sigh. Have been trying to get to White Ribbon for awhile. Hopefully next weekend. Hope you enjoy Inheritance and After the Wedding-subtle but powerful flicks.

The only good parts are in the trailers because those are the ONLY good parts.
