Except for racism, we have morally gone backwards since the 50’s.

Yeah, pretty awful. No EPA, DOE, Medicare, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credit, Welfare, we actually had a real southern border, local and state operated public schools, marriage, homos kept to themselves, low taxes, California was the Golden State . . .

Actually it feels to me like the atmosphere is more racist now than it was in the fifties. There’s less actual discrimination now, but more heat and anger.
Back then we had the Bracero Program.
If farmers needed temporary farm labor, contracts were made and Mexican workers come in and picked the crops. The temporary workers were then paid and they went back home to Mexica to spend their Dollars.
Rinse and repeat as needed.
The program was in place from 1942 to 1967 and, at it's peak in 1956, involved 445,197 Braceros.
The program was killed in the 1967 as a result of political pressure from the unions and Cesar Chavez.
Today, if somebody proposes such a program, they are ripped apart with screams of "open border advocate".
Actually it seemed to me to bd more of a statement about Adam Smith than about the 50’s
Race relations are getting worse, but I’m not sure I would want to go back to the 50’s, either.
I think the races would get along harmoniously if not for the government intentionally creating divisions.
All Richard is really thinking about are the broads at his school and all the drugs he will be doing in the 1960’s.
What an odd story. Men work, women raise families, families go to chruch, government is helpful. Sure is a strange nation. Probably could never win a war!

This was probably a film that was shown in schools as part of citizen’s education classes. These days a public school won’t show anything like this but will teach a week about slavery and Harriet Tubman and 10 minutes about George Washington and Thomas Jefferson
