Fullerton chief apologizes for raid on wrong home

FULLERTON – Acting Police Chief Kevin Hamilton publicly apologized Tuesday night for four narcotics detectives mistakenly entering the wrong house while searching for a suspect.

Hamilton, a captain filling in for the chief, who is on medical leave, also outlined during the City Council meeting several policy changes resulting from the incident.

On Oct. 20, 2010, detectives entered the home of Chuck and Robyn Nordell, in the 200 block of Ventura Place. The suspect who police were looking for was actually in the house next door.

The Nordells, along with their 23-year old daughter and 26-year old son, were home at about 5:30 p.m. when Robyn Nordell spotted a man walking by her window and another standing at the back door.

"I'm thinking, 'Oh, God, don't let this be a home invasion,' " Nordell, a teacher at Anaheim Magnolia Christian School, said during the council meeting.

Unfortunately, it was a home invasion.

What ever happened to knocking on the door and showing your search warrant?

Whatever happened to confirming the suspect is actually at the address before entry?

If you haven’t done anything wrong, and you don’t know anyone who has done anything wrong, and you don’t live anywhere near anyone who had ever done anything wrong, and you don’t have a dog or a senile parent or firearms in the house, and you don’t panic and you keep your hands where the police can see them at ALL times, then you don’t have anything to be afraid of in a police “house call”.

What’s the big deal?

Thank goodness the homeowner didn’t shoot the cop.

cops in urban CA have always struck me as contemptuous of
‘civilians’ and who spit on their rights, and who go ‘heavy’ whenever possible. Far cry from places like TX where citizens can and do carry...

LOL! Yeah, the intelligence in donuts must have used to have been where the hole is now. Pity!

And watch any nervous ticks, if you have any, the cops might think you're going for a gun and blast your ass away. (semi-clever pun intended ;)

The Fullerton PD needs to be disbanded. Everything they do is suspect, and that provides a great opportunity for criminals. Bring in the County Sheriff.

Did he say anything about the “accidental” police beating death - murder - of the homeless guy?

Otherwise, I don’t want to hear from him until he abandons covering up for murderous thugs with police badages.

The dead guy’s dad is a retired sheriff. So he knows a thing or two about homey Union cops.

If one or more Nordells had been shot there would have been NO apology and Nordells would be facing felony charges of some sort which would probably be eventually dropped but there would be declarations from the Department and probably the mayor that the police had acted properly and were to be commended. The officers who did the shooting would be rewarded with extra vacations.

It took this clown a year to apologize. It was, of course, immediately obvious to everyone they'd made a mistake, but you've gotta justify all that money paid out to the lawyers somehow, I suppose. So they spend a godd****d year denying and stonewalling before they're finally advised to apologize.

We've given the cops too much power; and the war on drugs still ain't working. Just legalize the crap. I know, I know. A chunk of the population will destroy themselves on it. Well, tough. They already are.

At least the rest of us wouldn't have to put up with this Barbra Streisand.
