Kokomo — Sheriff deputies arrested one of four people believed to be involved in a child-selling case in which a baby was traded for $17,000 and drugs.
Deputies arrested Stephen P. Lynch Jr., 31, Thursday afternoon on a warrant charging him with a Class A felony conspiracy to deal in a narcotic and D felonies conspiracy to commit child selling and profiting from an adoption.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Howard Superior Court 1, Stephen Lynch, along with another person, gave another couple $13,000, a 1996 Lincoln Mark VIII valued at $3,531 and numerous drugs in exchange for the couple’s now 2-year-old son.
The other three people have yet to be charged in the case.
Lynch also was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia when deputies went to a residence at 4162 N. 1200 West, to serve the child-selling warrant on Lynch.
Lynch is being held in the Howard County jail on a $75,000 bail with no 10 percent permitted. If convicted of the more serious A felony drug charge, Lynch could face up to 50 years. But on the child-selling charge, he could only face up to three years in jail, according to state law.
So... if you sell a child, you only face up to three years?! Words fail...

Lynch, 34, 500 block of South Indiana Street, in the 800 block of South Washington Street, on charges of two counts of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a police scanner. Police also arrested Stephen P. Lynch, 31, same address, and a 15-year-old male, each on a charge of possession of marijuana.
Babies are worth it. Parents who sell them should be snuffed. Period.

3 years for a life is a bit skewed, to say the least.
Sounds like another victim in the victimless crime of drugs.
If I could hold off selling her til after she's 12, I'd almost take the 3 years in prison as opposed to going through that 13-17 age with another daughter .

Actually, on some level, this is great.
Some cruddy worthless druggie parents are having a defenseless child removed from their custody, and someone who puts a value on a life gets a child.
Of course, the parents should end up in jail and this is slavery so thus should be illegal. But glad to see baby out of their care.
I raised boys and I admit that was MUCH easier! My Dad used to tease me that I went into my room at 13 as a monster, but when I reemerged at 18 and left for the Army, I was a moderately tolerable human being, LOL!
The Father seems altogether 'flat-lined', in his emotions. Perhaps he cannot be as openly dishonest as his wife or, is he the last to know here(?)
Whatever; the father stands like a tree - and emotes the same; while she leans and wails. Think this is a disgusting story of sick parenting unfolding.
Have to say my second worst thought is that this baby was given up for money. We also do not know exactly when/time she disappeared; but would bet enough time for this child to be 'secured'.
