I was very upset when Palin decided not to run and I still wish she would have. However, as times goes on, I have no idea that she would kick butt in Iowa, SC and other primaries. I believe she would have won the nomination. If the party then united behind her, she could have won 270 electoral votes. But here is the problem...I think Palin had doubts that certain portions of the party would unite behind her even if she had won the nomination. She knew they were hostile. I don't know if this is the exact reason she decided not to run...but it had to be a factor.
It's true. It is wrong. It is very sad. But I am convinced that Priebus and MOST of the boys at the RNC would have prefered an Obama 2nd term over a Palin presidency. The only reason I can think of is that they believed their own power and control would be gone if Palin were elected.
I was a bit harsh and upset at first..but after thinking about it more.. I think she can do a lot to change the party over the next 5-10 years by traveling to all 50 states and backing fiscal conservatives at the local state and national level.
As for our party...we can't throw the election. but we damn well better make sure that when this next election is over, we do some serious house cleaning in all levels of government. And we need to make sure that the RNC is changed from the inside or scrap it and start from scratch. This is going to take some time , but the more we overrun them when we send real conservatives to D.C. in elections, the more the walls will close in on them. We can win the election with real conservatives in the house and the senate, even if we end up with a President that is more like Richard Nixon than Ronald Reagan. (Perry, or Newt..ect)
don't forget. when we take the senate with real conservatives. The President of the United States will have them breathing down his back on issue of spending and reform.
lets be happy warriors in this election. we can beat the establishment and the Dems at the same time

I too am glad to see you have reevaluated the situation. Perhaps someday we’ll know why she chose not to run, but I have my own theories that are best left unsaid.
Regardless, she is and will remain a force in Conservative politics. The lack of ‘Palinmania’ lately on FR is of course partly because she’s not on the roster, but she has only put out a couple comments since announcing she was not running. And don’t forget that a ton of the Palin posts were either PDSers spouting BS or the rest of us countering them.
She’ll be around, making a positive impact and doing the job she’s chosen to take on. The detractors can get over it because whining isn’t helping themselves and it’s not hurting her. So what’s the point?
I’ve thought about that, too. A significant portion of the “Old Guard” GOP would be trying to submarine and kneecap her first term, at least until she whipped ‘em for it publicly. I don’t believe that would keep her from running. She stepped down for her family.
Your theory as to why she decided not to run is close to the truth, imo. If Palin got the nomination, it would have been on the strength of the tea party voters. The GOP establishment elites would not have supported her in the general election. They would rather see her and the tea party lose as they despise us more than they do Obama. Palin isn’t willing to let that happen. We’ll need to work hard to send many tea party patriots to the House and Senate to negate the power of the GOP elites. Should the country elect a Romney as president, I’d like to see a primary challenge in 2016. Maybe it’ll be Palin. We’ll see.
However, I wouldn’t rule out a new party forming to challenge both the Democrat AND Republican parties. They’re both corrupt.
So Romney and his minions are still afraid of her? Or is it just a reflex action?
I will not be surprised at all if the Tea Party rises to become a 3rd official party AFTER the 2012 election if we can get Obama out and off his dictatorial throne. There are “effectively” 3 parties now, but tea party’ers dare not split the vote until Obama is gone. When that grisly task is done, I will most gladly align myself with a “Tea Party” party, if that arises. I no longer consider myself a Republican, but instead consider myself a constitutional conservative and that distinction has never been more clear. The Republican ruling class are corrupt to the bone, and are no different than the liberal class in most aspects. They are clubhouse buddy’s, and are out to maintain their power and the status quo.
We all need to work on finding good candidates with a broad appeal. Christine O'Donnell was a flake, and if we allow ourselves to nominate more people like her because they chant a Tea Party mantra, we will continue to lose. I'm not sorry that we didn't elect Mike Castle, the liberal Republican who ran against her in the primary. On the other hand, if the Tea Party had gotten behind someone who could win in Delaware but wasn't a liberal, we could have done the country some good. Christine O'Donnell would be a flake in any state, but we can't expect to elect another Jim Inhofe from Delaware. We could have used the momentum last year to elect someone who would be reasonably right of center.
I don’t know about Christine O’Donnell, but the vast majority of outsider/tea party candidates have been competitive.
Angle was very competitive in Nevada (a blue state in 08). If the 2010 election were held now or just a few months later than it did, she would have won.
My goodness, we won a house seat in NYC recently with a real conservative. I thought Bob Turner had to be a mushy liberal republican when I read that he had won, then it turns out he is a down to earth patriotic conservative.
I know what you are saying, but we can’t narrow the political process away from real people who might not be conventional politicians who deicde to run. every single candidate should be judged as an individual in each case. doesnt matter if its a 35 year old woman or a 75 year old man.
Yep, I’m in that same place. The days of a permanent political elite class living off the hard work of the people has got to come to an end.

Even CNN said she was more polite and open than any politician they had seen in a long time. The CNN reporter even wrote a nice positive article about her. That really flipped out the normal PDS CNN posters, who went near berserk about it.
I suspect that her son, Trig, played no small role in her decision.
If conservatives did not rise up to support and defend Palin of all people against the dirty attacks, just forget that idea of another succeeding.
