Tim Tebow leads Broncos to overtime win over the Dolphins in first start

Posted on 10/23/2011 1:51:29 PM PDT by Perdogg

Yes, I know it is the Dolphins, but he did throw two touchdowns and coverted a 2pt conversion to send it into overtime.

He was 13 for 27, 2-TDs and 0-Ints for QB rating of 91.70.

I just looked at the standings — a lot of teams in the running. ...unless they already traded away their first round picks next year. The Rams may be the worst team, and they’re also winless. And the Cards, Vikes, and Jags have only one win apiece.

Ryan Leaf got trashed a lot pretty much from day 1. Everybody knew the standard on him was great skills might have character issues. Not sure which Demarcus you’re referring too, there’s a lot out there, but there’s plenty of others that have been trashed from day one. I’m old enough to remember Peyton Manning getting trashed for never winning the big game.

There’s plenty of buts for Tebow, what some clips from the first 55 minutes of yesterday’s game, he was terrible. There’s no other way to slice it. And 99% of all commentary about EVERY player has that but thing, that’s what the analysts are paid to do, point out the strengths and weaknesses. And Tebow’s got a lot of both. I’ll steal this almost word for word from Michael Irvin, he’s got will and leadership and he’s great in the 4th quarter which is the time you need a QB to be great, he also has serious technique issues and he’s terrible in the first 3 quarters. At least so far. It’s only 1 game.

Elway looked pretty bad his first year too, I remember how comical he looked when he lined up under the guard, instead of the center on one play.

Yes, I will admit Tebow is a “work in progress.” At least Cam does have some weapons in Carolina, in Steve Smith, which is a big help. Miami was completely focused yesterday on stopping Tebow, because Denver has no other weapons.

Let’s see what Tebow does when he has a decent offensive line, and some other offensive weapons that defenses have to account for.

Give Tebow some weapons on offense, like he had at Florida, and you’ll see the value he brings.

Well Tebow isn't at Florida. He's in the big leagues now, and he has to win with what he has.

I'll steal this from Deion Sanders from yesterday's postgame show (paraphrased): Tebow's the guy who can't throw the ball through any of the holes at the carnival booth, but still walks away with all the big stuffed animals.

I’m not saying he’s not good, I’m simply saying he stunk in every way for 55 minutes. That’s the reality of the situation. Miami didn’t have to be completely focused on stopping him, he missed at least 3 receivers by 5 yards, he was stopping himself great.

He’s in the situation he’s in. There’s no “let’s see if”, he’s a Bronco, what they have is what he gets. Maybe he’ll get it together, maybe not.

Yeah but Indianapolis is the most surprising. It’s as if when Manning was lost for the season then the whole team said, “That’s it. We can’t win.” I mean really. With or without Manning there is no way they should have given up 62 points yesterday. Even against the Saints.

It would be funny if a team goes 0-16 and still doesn’t get the first pick. Frankly, when I look at their schedules, I don’t see where Miami, St Louis, or Indianapolis can win a game. I think there’s a decent chance at least two of those teams wind up going 0-16.

Miami, because they do have a half-decent defense, probably is the best of the three.

I liked that one too, though Micheal’s hit the technical aspects. We’ll see how it plays out. All I’m saying is anybody thinking all Tebow’s critics owe him an apology need to re-watch the first 55 minutes, which given that it was the closest game of the week they’ll probably get to do on NFL Replay tomorrow. He pulled it out in the end, but he was bad before then.

Teams get old, overnight...it happened to the Cowboys in the late 90s. That’s what happened to the Colts, and frankly I think Indy should look at trading Peyton.

What kills teams is hanging onto players that brought you success for too long....New England is really good at getting rid of popular players, at the right time, that’s why they stay on top.

He did win with what he had, it wasn't pretty, but the bottom line is, he got it done.

Are you holding Sam Bradford to the same standard?

Well he has as many wins this season as Orton does, and he almost bailed Orton out against San Diego.

For 1 game yeah. But I’ve always subscribed to the Maddenism on 4th quarter comeback, they’re nice and all but in order to have one you have to be losing after 3. And if he comes out of the first 3 quarters with 24 yards of passing against a real team that has an actual offense there won’t be that stunning 4th quarter comeback. A lot of this was enabled by Miami’s ineptness, it’s hard to score 4 times and only have 15 points, a better team would have put it away in those first 3 quarters.

In the end he did well. But he also showed all the things his critics have been hitting him for.

Orton comparisons are pointless and useless. We already know Orton isn’t a legitimate starter, we’ve known that for years. The question is is Tebow? And yesterday didn’t give us an answer. For 55 minutes he showed exactly why he was 3rd on the depth chart, for 5 minutes he showed why he’s won at every level. Speaking of 3rd on the depth chart where’s Brady Quinn?

Sam Bradford was named starting QB game 1 of he rookie year. He had a completion rate of 60% for over 3500 yards. 18 TDs. 15 INTs. QB rating of 76.5. 2010 Offensive Rookie of the year. Let's see how Tebow looks come January and then you can crow about him.

He's an in your face Christian that won't deny it. He did a commercial that was pro-life during the Super Bowl. He must be discredited and destroyed. That's the way it works.

People joke about killing him, wishing he were dead, saying that he has NO CHANCE to be a starting quarterback and all he does is put his shoulder to the grindstone and work. He smiles and keeps on coming.

I'm a Cowboy fan and I'd take him right this second for Tony Romo. Heck, I'd pay for the airfare to get him here and Romo to Denver. He's got the same thing that Staubach had. He just wins. Romo is Danny White and Craig Morton..... great stats, looks good and just manages to find a way to lose.

I guess the next couple of years will tell. I'm thinking he'll be traded and bump around the league as a backup and the hard work will pay off eventually. It always does.

What’s Bradford’s record this year? Has he won with what he has?

And Reggie White was a licensed minister, Kurt Warner was always very open in his faith, Troy Polamalu prays nobody gets hurt before every play. Sorry but your dog just plain isn’t hunting.

People joke about killing everybody. There’s 311 million people in this country, some of them are bound to be losers. A good chunk of the guys that wind up in the league people say they have no chance, and they just keep going, that’s the job.

If a team had Romo and Tebow the evidence right now says to use them like a pitching rotation. Romo is generally solid in the first 3 quarters, it’s the 4th when he disintegrates; Tebow’s first 3 were atrocious, but he won it in the 4th. Start Romo, close with Tebow, could be a path to success.

Hard work has already paid off, he’s making big fat cash. Whether or not he’ll translate that into a starting career is another matter. It takes more than hard work for that, it takes physical talent and no small amount of luck. I’ve seen a lot of people bloom large and fade fast in the NFL.

I think we can both agree that the jury is still out, and you saw the good and the bad, yesterday. All I’m saying is, he is still new and trying to get used to the offense, if he hasn’t improved by the end of the season, it may very well turn out that you’re right.

I still say what Tebow brings to the table are intangibles that don’t show up in the stats.
