anyone know much about "Premium Stock Knife" from Germany

Posted on 10/25/2011 7:19:26 PM PDT by BOBWADE

One of my friends has an old vintage knife that he wanted me to look up for him. He does not have a computer or access to the internet and wanted me to see what I could find out. The knife is in nice condition and is marked "Premium stock knife" on one blade, another blade is marked Germany and inscribed with "EARNST G AHREUS", and the smallest blade has a small eagle with an arrow. He said that he has had it for years and was just curious about it since he has never seen another one like it. There are not any other markings that he can see. I tried an internet search but couldn't find this knife. Has anyone seen one of these and what can you tell me about it? Many thanks to any FReeper that can help.

Made by Shrade. All kinds of Yahoo search results for “premium stock knife”.

This one looks old and hand made. No schrade marking and made in Germany. I saw a bunch of premium stock knives but none under this name. Is the eagle and arrow a schrade marking?

When I hear “German knives” I think Puma. They’ve made knives for quite a while, like hundreds of years. Someday I’d like to obtain a white hunter.

Good catch. This is probably the same company that he has. His is a three blade knife in like new condition.

I posted a couple pics and am hoping one of my fellow FReepers can fill me in on it’s history and value.

Hi Bob, if you’re going to do an internet search you need to spell the markings correctly. It’s not “EARNST G AHREUS,” it’s “Ernst G Ahrens.”

Anyway, I’ve searched around and found nothing better than that link I already posted. There are some knife collector forums out there, though. I had no idea there were so many knife lovers. Cool.

I’d keep my eye on Ebay, do a search once a day, and something will probably turn up eventually. Be sure when you perform your search that you also check the description box . They have quite a few stock knives—wonder what the difference is between a stock knife and a premium stock knife. I searched for “stock knife” and got over 100 hits, although half of them were useless.

I am sorry for the error in spelling. I was going off of what I was told over the phone by my friend. It was your link that lead me to believe that his spelling was off. He gave me the knife to look at tonight. Thanks for helping him out. I think he was hoping it was rare and valuable. Its a pretty solid knife anyways and something for him to hang on to.
