What to do with Romney?

Posted on 10/28/2011 10:01:28 AM PDT by EMG2012

Hi everyone-- I'm a longtime lurker of FR and just signed up to get your feedback about a question I am sure many of us are asking ourselves. As a lifelong conservative, I am concerned about the possibility (probability?) of Mitt Romney receiving the GOP nomination for president next year. Many of my friends are convinced Romney will win the nomination, but I am very concerned that if he were to get into office, he would not stand up for the conservative policies we desperately need after the past four years. I want Obama out of office more than anything, but how do I reconcile the possibility of supporting Romney? Is there a third party candidate to draft who could help us take back our country?

Any feedback from all of you is much appreciated-- I just don't know what to think at this point. Thanks!

Yes, it is ominous.

I’ve voted exclusively GOP my whole voting life, never wavering a single time. But if Romney is the nominee, I’m not giving him my vote. Doesn’t matter who he picks as veep. What will I do? Too early to say entirely. Leave the prez ballot empty... vote for a third-party option... or maybe just ‘write in’ Sarah Palin, for the heck of it. I’ll just have to wait to see how things shake out.

"I will vote my conscience.
NO - MORE - RINOS"

Amen Brother. RINOS are worse than dems because they get too many conservatives to let their guard down during the march toward globalism....Which is, of course, their globalist-assigned job.

I like Herman Cain a great deal, and I’m warming to Newt Gingrich as well, based upon his recent performance. We don’t have a George Washington or a Ronald Reagan available at this time. But if Romney is the nominee, I think that Obama and his media friends will fillet, gut and serve him up like a rainbow trout.

Nothing, because it's pretty clear he is going to win at this point and he is the best chance to beat Obama. I don't believe he's as bad as Obama, that's complete nonsense. He's not the most conservative candidate on the planet, but there is no doubt in my mind he will be a big improvement over Obama, and there will be more political pressure on him to make more center-right decisions than with Obama, obviously.

Is it just me, or is now a good time to be wary?

I mean, why support a third party candidate, if it serves mainly to carve off part of the Republican vote?

(Oh, and BTW: IBTZ)

The blind, my-party-right-or-wrong voting is what placed us here. If Romney gets the nomination, I'm voting for Obama.

With Barak in office for another 4 years, it should take about 18 months until CW2 starts. Then, we can take out the trash.

Hillary is outpolling both O and the current R field.

We can hate on Mitt until the cows come home...in the end it won’t make any difference. The majority of voters will
go for the big govmint, pro-’choice’, pro-’union’ candidate.

It would take a candidate of Reagan’s stature to change this, and our best (Cain) is too new to the scene to be the next Reagan. The general election would be Hill’s to lose as things stand now...and this is before Dem opposition research gets to work finding/manufacturing dirt on Cain.

I agree that the fix is in for Romney. And I don’t think anything can be done about it.

Mitt will likely win NH and little else.

The MSM and RINOs like Rove will say after NH, it's all over, Mitt's the one. Fox will be rabid for Mitt! (I only look at FOX when Sarah is on. I NEVER have FOX on otherwise)

We will just have to ignore these elite pigs and vote for a real conservative. There is no way Mitt wins SC and FL.

Obama will be re-elected because the conditions that led to his election have not been reversed.

It's not really a fix, it's more to the fact that Romney is just a more skilled candidate than the rest. He's pretty damn intelligent in the ways of politics. The reality is it takes a good politician to win. You can cry about how unconservative these guys are, but that's more to the fact that the America public is just not as conservative as some people claim they are.

If you look at most of history, Republican presidents were not all that conservative, but that does not mean that some conservative laws and initiatives did not win out when they were president. This has to be the most conservative POTUS candidature I can remember. It's national politics, you can't have your cake and eat it too. You win some and you lose some. That's the way it will always be unless your particular small interest groups crowns it's own king of the nation. Never going to happen until Jesus comes, and everyone will be surprised how unlike them He really is.

That's just crazy talk. You show a basic misunderstands of what national elections are. You are not going to get everyone to agree with your definition of a conservative on a national level. You probably think your very special however. This is why the liberals will always have their way in this country, because they know how to vote in massive groups, not for candidates who give them everthing they want, but at least for the candidate who will move their agendas forward more than the next guy.

So what if you are wrong about this? Are you going to call people liberal because they don't believe this is true? Ridiculous.

If you control or strongly influence a number of votes that is significant in comparison to the likely margin of victory (millions), then "carving off part of the Republican vote" is a concern. If you're just one ordinary voter (like me) then your vote serves mainly to send a message to all the parties - and the question becomes, what message do you want to send?

Romney ISN'T a conservative. He is, at best, a RINO. 20% ot the US is unemployed, the US government is the single largest employer in the country, There are so many federal regulations controlling every facet of our lives that a paper copy of each one, collected, cannot be hauled by a freight train.

REPUBLICANS and Democrats are jointly responsible. Our "elected" overlords have voted themselves powers that rival or surpass the Roman Senate.

AND YOU THINK WE SHOULD SMILE AND TAKE IT IN THE ASS FOREVER!

There are a great many people, even including the poor deluded OWS types, that no longer think that a Civil War to overthrow the regime is silly or crazy. Filling ditches with Leftists, and their enablers, is approaching.

To sum up, national elections are an exercise in futility, meant only to foster the illusion that we have some kind of control over the Royalty. It's past time to start sharpening Guillotine blades. The technology to destroy millions, in massive groups, exists. It time to dust it off.

Don’t understand why Romney is called a RINO. What he is, is a CINO. He is a good Republican posing as a Conservative.

Even George Will Gets It: "Romney, supposedly the Republican most electable next November, is a recidivist reviser of his principles who is not only becoming less electable, he might damage GOP chances of capturing the Senate" ...

Get lost Mitt!
