Some believe a mountain lion may be lurking in northwest Washington.
One neighbor described the creature as larger and wider than a deer, with the long tail of a cat.
Another woman said she was walking her dog in McLean Gardens at the edge of Glover Park when she spotted the large cat last week. The cat, which she believes is a mountain lion, ran off into some nearby woods.

Nah. I think its more likely a great dane.
What this line, repeated over and over, means is they don't want to trigger the environmental and political consequences of admitting that that area is in fact their habitat. Don't want to close down the EPA headquarters over an endangered species, do we? We see it all the time in stories along the east coast that environmental laws are made for western states, not to inconvenience the eastern population centers.
This isn't a giraffe, it is a native species that is increasing in population throughout the 20th century, with an instinct to spread out and take back the continent which used to be their habitat.

There is photographic evidence of three cougars which showed up one morning in someone’s yard in the northeastern part of WV. They hung around like they were at home.
Somebody tell that Cougar Democrats taste like chicken. LOL!

I’m just hoping that they aren’t big on swimming across rivers... Or walking down I 95. The wolves and coyotes don’t bother me...but giant kitties scare me.
