Under Cain, NRA launched sexual harassment fight
Poltico ^

Posted on 11/05/2011 7:40:41 AM PDT by DBCJR

When sexual harassment complaints against Herman Cain unfolded at the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s, the issue was all too familiarfor the trade association.

In the wake of the televised 1991 Clarence Thomas Supreme Court confirmation hearings — and the widely publicized sexual harassment charges leveled against him by Anita Hill — American businesses had been hit by a wave of sexual harassment cases. And the restaurant industry, in particular, was hit especially hard.

Industry officials saw it coming — none other than Cain himself warned as long ago as 1991 that changes in federal law resulting from the hearings could cause problems for employers.

“This bill opens the door for opportunists who will use the legislation to make some money,” Cain, then CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, told Nation’s Restaurant News. “I’m certainly for civil rights, but I don’t know if this bill is fair because of what we’ll have to spend to defend ourselves in unwarranted cases.”

In Cain’s own situation, sexual harassment allegations during his late 1990s tenure as NRA CEO led to at least two settlements with employees: one for approximately $45,000 and another in the mid-$30,000s.

I was just thinking about this situation and it seems a little strange that first it was said that the woman would like to speak but has a confidentiality agreement. Then the nra said they will waive it. Then her attorney decides to let everyone know that she is not willing to relive this horrible incident and will not comment. Having presided over my children and their bickering, it is becoming more and more clear that the agreement was not protecting Cain, the agreement was probably protecting the accuser. If she did lie, she may have threatened to draw this thing out as long as possible costing the company millions. That would probaly be a better reason not to talk, don’t you think?

I don’t know why anyone is still going on about this story. Chris mathews of MSNVC has already pronounced Cain guilty of something. So that’s all that needs be said. BTW, you can review Chris’ new book, “Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero” on Amazon.com. Remember to give Mathews the same just consideration he does to anyone on the right, especially Cain. Have fun now.

This is sounding more and more like the Clarence Thomas case. Justice Thomas wrote the law defining sexual harassment. It’s called the Meritor case. He did this while head of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The case was a landmark case, as it extended gender equality to the workplace, not merely to hiring and firing. Ironically or maybe deliberately, the other side went after him on this matter.

Those settlements actually sound about like someone was granted about a years severance pay and changed jobs without pursuing things further. That sounds a lot like these people being confronted with the fact that they couldn't win but to avoid PR they could leave their job with severance and keep their mouth shut lest their own behavior and activities be made public.

People who win such suits don't just leave the job with severance pay, the want damages aplenty. These were bogus claims to begin with, probably brought when an "activist" (i.e. extortionist) talked these people into bringing them because Cain saw what was coming and said so.

We had a gal that would come to work with no panties and a short skirt.
She would bend over and if you commented she would file a suit.
An old Marine I worked with had her all figured out.
She would come into the office looking for documentation and he would feign being busy and tell her it was on the top shelf.
She would proceed to get a step stool....

Polutico lost all their credibility with the JournOlist affair. How can anybody believe that you are in any way objective with that many JournOlists in your team.

Even the far left kool-aid addicts will wonder if you're blowing smoke up their keister. That is what happens when you become a blatant propaganda mouthpiece.

Gave it one star ... with the following:

Got this tome as a gift. If Mr. Matthews expected this myopic rendering of facts about JFK to send a thrill up anyone's leg, he's going to be very disappointed. Reads like a book report by a high school sophomore.

Maybe Politico is intentionally destroying what little credibility they have left, so that when they’re forced to print a retraction on Herman Cain, nobody will be he’s innocent :)

The amounts of these settlements indicate a meritless case that was cheaper to settle than defend.

We should thank them for the faux exposee. Got it out early so it could be dealt with. Unintended side effects are hurting Politico, Perry and Romney who carried the water and the demrat left and the faux scanddal’s colossal failure pretty much insures the immoral b******* will not try a repeat performance. I bet, too, Cain’s RINO/demrat rivals will be treading lightly around him the rest of the way to November.

The way Cain handled the attempted lynching was masterful. He did not panic or run to the microphones to defend himself. He let the truth find its way to the top of the slime barrel.

Wouldn’t have been possible without the internet.

Ninety stories, and we still don’t know Who, What, Where, or When! But this backpedaling is a good indication of the Why.

So now, Gloria Allred is in the picture?

“The Justice Sister” ;-) - I sure wouldn’t want to be caught between her and Revs. Jesse or Al when a TV camera pops up.

What a joke these people are.
