Ashamed of my fellow Kentuckians (Vanity)
11/09/11 | Serpent1

Posted on 11/09/2011 7:54:02 AM PST by Serpent1

For the first time in my life I must admit that I am ashamed of my state and my fellow Kentuckians. Yesterday was election day for the following offices: Governor, Auditor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Treasurer, and Agriculture Commissioner. The Dimocrats nearly made a clean sweep with the small exception of Agriculture Commissioner. Needless to say, my spirits are pretty low right now. I can only hope this is not a trend towards the 2012 election. And with Ohio voting to let the Unions keep their omnipotent power then I must say I am indeed getting worried about the direction of the upcoming 2012 election. With the attempted character assassination of Herman Cain (which just may work) and the dreadful results of yesterday's elections I must admit that my spirits are almost as low as when Obama got elected. In my opinion the whole key to turning things around is the media. There has to be some way to hold them accountable for their ridiculous bias- they roast Cain while all the negative reports on Obama are ignored by them. I have often wondered why some of the more wealthy GOP members haven't bought or started their own networks. Fox is decent but vastly outnumbered. If anyone out there can give me any words of encouragement then please, by all means, do so. I have kept the faith until now but I fear that I am faltering. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheer up. The victory in Ohio was purchased by the unions with a vast expense that cannot easily be recouped, while Kentucky seems to reflect state specific conditions.

The only advice I can give you is read your Bible. Pray for what worries you and just open it up and start reading.

I’ve been quite shocked a few times doing that. Knock and He will open His door.

Relax. From what I’ve heard, KY Dems are like any other Southern State Dems that must run to the right to win elections. While the South has become solidly Republican in Presidential elections, some states (AR, KY, WV) still have strong Democrat-controlled legislatures. It says absolutely nothing about 2012.

I understand how you feel. When I voted I was told I was number 14 and this was after the polls had been opened for almost two hours.

I believe it is mostly apathy and not wanting to rock the boat. The numbers of people here on welfare and assistance of one sort or another is amazing. I think they just want to watch TV and let the rest of the world leave them alone.

Of course there are notable exceptions like the Amish and many of my fellow farmers but even they just want to be left alone to live their lives in peace.

Can I just state the obvious? We have weak, demoralizing leadership who cave to the enemy at every turn, and with the withdrawal of Palin, the energy of the Presidential race has been sucked down a sinkhole. From my perspective, things appear hopeless for America. Bob

I sympathize, to be sure. But all we can do now is have faith. Faith that God will not completely turn away from us, although we have turned away from Him. I find myself faltering at times as well, and have grave concerns about next year’s elections. You are right. The media is the key. But we have lost them. They have been almost completely infested by leftists and are obviously in the tank for Zero. After all, it is one of the reasons he was selected — I mean, elected. I work at a government building that is currently heavily populated by reporters. I told a co-worker that the building will have to be fumigated when they leave. All I can tell you is pray. Pray like you have never prayed before for our republic. Because once liberty is lost - as a wise man once wrote - it is lost forever.

And then there will be nowhere else to go. The light from the shining city on the hill will be extinguished.

I often wonder if we have reached a point where so many are suckling of the teat of the government that we’ll never see austerity measures implemented until America’s economy collapses.

I also often wonder if I’m a fool for working when I too could be suckling...

Looks like they enjoy being ruled by the Communists Democratic Party. Kentucky is lost and the fools don’t even know it.

Maybe people can quit with the happy talk about how Obama doesn’t stand a chance in 2012 and that the Tea Party is going to ignite a revolution that is fundamentally changing the direction of the country. Reality is what it is and at this point, neither is true.

Obama is vulnerable but not down and out. Considering what an awful president he has been, his approval ratings are still disturbingly high. And can we please quit with the fantasies that he isn’t going to run. That stuff is just stupid. The Tea Party has helped organize conservatives, but has not shifted the direction this country is going. Americans are as wedded to the social welfare state as ever before (perhaps more so). Dependence on government handouts is expanding, not shrinking. And those people who live off transfer payments are not likely to vote against anyone threatening to cut them off the government teet. We are becoming like Europe, and so far neither the Tea Party or movement conservatives in general have done much to reverse the problem.

We got absolutely clobbered in Kentucky, lost badly in Ohio on the union issue, did not take the Iowa senate, did not do as well in Virginia as expected (though we may have retaken the state senate it is VERY close), watched Mississippi of all places reject a pro-life initiative, lost some critical recall races, and generally just had a piss poor night. And this is happening in an atmosphere that SHOULD be greatly benefiting conservatives considering how badly the Democrat president has run this economy into the ground.

Worse, I sat here yesterday and read posts right here on FR from conservatives declaring they weren’t voting because their choices were not conservative enough. Never mind that ANY Republican in some of these races could mean the difference between controlling a chamber or having the Democrats control it and set the agenda. No, no, instead we have a bunch of crybabies whining that if a Republican candidate isn’t pure enough, they intend to sit home. Apparently people like this don’t realize that if you don’t vote NO ONE cares what you think. Refusing to participate in the Republican party doesn’t make the party cater to conservatives more, it pushes the party further to left so they can get the votes needed to win elections elsewhere (which means more “moderates” not less).

Politics is a pretty tough proposition these days. 30-45% of the American people know that their economic future can be improved by voting for the Democrats who will take money away from the 70-55% of the people who don’t pay attention or are too busy making a living or are fighting the Democrats. That 30-45% is an extremely strong base. And no amount of logic is going to change their votes. The first thing conservatives have to do is to quit trying to fight by the Marquis of Queensbury Rules in these political streetfights. My Dad told me, “When I was young, I used to fight like a Boy Scout. I’d help the kid back up after I knocked him down. I lost every fight. I got tired of getting beat up. I started fighting to win. I never lost anymore fights.” Quit getting wrapped around the ideological arguments of the Democrats. They don’t believe in socialism, either. They just use it to get votes from the young and stupid. They use politics to get money for themselves. When we knock them down, quit giving them a hand up so they can hit us again. Knock them down, and then kick their teeth in if they don’t give up. We can be Boy Scouts when they start getting 3% of the vote.

Don’t be too concerned about Kentucky.... we didn’t have much of a choice. This state did elect Rand Paul, too ya know! :-)

There was ZERO chance that Beshear was not going to win the Govenor’s race.. mainly, for one reason: He’s done a pretty good job as Govenor. He’s managed to get the state through some pretty tough economic hurdles WITHOUT raising taxes... he’s not a “typical” Dim.

Meanwhile, the Republican, David Williams, says all the right things... but, just looks and sounds like a sourpuss. He has single-handedly (OVER the will of the majority of Kentuckians) stopped all efforts to allow slot machines to be placed at racetracks. Surrounding states have this. The revenue they generate allows the tracks to offer larger purses.. so, GUESS WHERE THE HORSES GO? It’s a pretty serious issue in a state where horse breeding and racing is a major industry. That issue alone made me not want Williams as Govenor, and I wish he’d lose his Senate seat, or retire... or better yet, change his mind.

The only dissapointment in Kentucky to me was seeing the rat snake, Jack Conway (who lost to Rand Paul) get re-elected to Attorney General. He’s a career politician not worth two spits in a snuff can. But, it was a low turnout election, with a strong Govenor at the top of the ticket. Conway won on name recognition alone... still, a real loss for the state.

This state will STILL vote Republican in the the 2012 Prez race... have now fear.

The ohio law was a flawed approach that so overreached that even the conservatives had trouble supporting it in full. They should have amended the bill to fix it’s real problems, and re-passed it. Instead, Kasich turned argumentative and intransigent, and this was the natural result.

As one example — under the law, you might make a recommendation, and the agency would reject it. It used to be you could take the recommendation to arbitration by an independent agency. Under the law the arbitration was instead heard by the same guy who just rejected the recommendation. It essentially gave people no way to get a “2nd opinion” on matters they thought were important.

The intent was to take power from an independent review board that might be too congenial to the unions, but the result looked patently unfair and hard to defend.

In the end, I consider that a self-inflicted wound.

Maybe that’s my problem. I haven’t listened to enough Al over the past few weeks! He always lifts my spirits, despite his often melancholy lyrics. Thanks for the laugh! Bob

The trouble is there weren’t ENOUGH partisans stirring yesterday, only about 30%! I know that I’ve been glum of late, but “everyone feels that way, in the beginning”. Bob

P.S If you haven’t ever heard “Somewhere in England 1915”, it’s on youtube. It’ll blow you away. Blessings, Bob
