London from the back of a bus (Great 1950's Video of a bygone era)

A short silent film of London taken from the back of a vehicle showing some of the best recorded ordinary-street scenes ever. What are now termed Classic Cars abound in this as yet undated film. It has the early 1950's aura to it. It wouldn't have been during the 40's and it was definitely not the 1960's, safe to say approximately early 1950's. Great colour film for the period.

Well, I have said the same thing numerous times here, and elsewhere.

They can label us however they want, because I am beyond caring what people, who cannot recongnize the plain truth, think.

You always hear of London’s foggy days, especially back then. This is so bright and balmy it almost seems subtropical.

Well, that gets us away from the early fifties.

1955? 56?

I really want to know...

Help me!

“We threw a lot away in the 1960’s, I hope it was all worth it.”

####

I believe the jury has already come in on that one.

It wasn’t.

Thank you, indeed it was a Traveller, (NB British spelling), yes, the Clubman was a Mini.

I’d suggest everyone read the comments at the original site. It will give you a hint of America to come.

This reminds me of a movie shot by two train buffs in the early 50s. They used a car to “pace” a Detroit streetcar from the end of the line to downtown (along Woodward Ave?) with color film. It’s very reminiscent of this movie...it too captured a bygone era.

I remember the line in "84 Charing Cross Road" - "I go to English movies just to look at the streets."

Reminds me of the film "Genevieve", try to see it if you have the chance. Kenneth More is in it, great little gem.

What year do you think it is?

Is that a Cadillac at 2:24?

In a few short years those same streets will be filled with people walking around in their underwear with safety pins stuck through their noses.

And a couple of years after that there will be huge sections of the city occupied by mongrel ragheads who refuse to allow humans access.

Fast forward a few more years and we see the same bloody thing happening in the US. Thank you Jorge Busho for the "religion of peace."

The car at 2:30 looks pretty late model.

Is that a Studebaker?

Now London is filled with foreigners who want to kill everyone.

Hard to believe a once great society would do that to itself.

OMG! There's going to be a major accident, they're driving on the wrong side of the road!! :)

The little girl walking with her parents is probably now in her late 60’s ... Wonder what happened in all of those peoples lives?

I'm not sure about the cream colored Ford, but earlier I saw what appeared to be a ‘52 or ‘53 Merc. There were some other early ‘50’s Jag’s but I can't be sure of the year.

The woodie was definitely a Morris Minor woodie wagon. I had a lot of fun in one just like it in my misspent youth.

That was a great decade for me.

Also, note how trim the people are. Interesting to compare with London today.
