Late to the thread, however, I had to inform you that you have created all sorts of envy from this FReeper household by posting the beautiful Mead pictures!

Great work!

From a wanna-be Mead crafter...

Sorry to disappoint but those are not Meads I have created. They represent one of my goals. I used images from another forum as an example of what a couple of perfect(IMO) looking Meads can and should look like.

I will be crafting a mead starting next week in the hopes it will be ready next Thanksgiving. Crossing fingers.

The Turkey just went for a swim in the Brine Bucket. Lady Bender has been her usual holiday dinner self for the past 3 days. Too much to cover in one post but suffice to say the only “failure” was a Gravy that was way too salty. Buckets of rain here in Benderville today...

Mrs. RD has to work tomorrow. So we will have our Thanksgiving on Friday.

What is in the brine besides the turkey?

It is a combination of Alton Brown, Alice Waters and Lady Bender

Happy Thanksgiving!

T’was the night of Thanksgiving,
But I just couldn’t sleep.
I tried counting backwards,
I tried counting sheep.

The leftovers beckoned -
The dark meat and white,
But I fought the temptation
With all of my might.

Tossing and turning with anticipation,
The thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door,
And gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
Gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.

I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
‘til all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky,
With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie.
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees....
Happy eating to all - pass the cranberries, please.

May your stuffing be tasty,
May your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes ‘n gravy have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious.
May your pies take the prize,
May your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

Hey Red, Happy Thanksgiving Day! That turkey wing gravy that you made and we discussed a week or two ago came out great. My wife made about half the amount that you had, but it was was still plenty for our gathering. Thanks. I would recommend this gravy to anybody that is looking for a good gravy.

I am glad the gravy turned out well and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. We are having our T-Day tomorrow, my wife had to work today. It has been a beautiful day today - always nice and quiet on T-Day in my town. I had to make a trip into town to find some dog food - Gees the whole town is a ghost town. Streets empty - parking lots empty - fast food joints closed - Looks like everyone is at home enjoying their feast with family and friends. Nice.

I just got a Totally Tomatoe day before yesterday, and plan to look at it tomorrow. House has been full of friends, and one told me there are tomatoes he’s never heard of. He loves tomatoes.

That cranberry looks lovely. Is meade make similar to beer?
Just curious.

That’s close Red but remember I saw two of them and all I had for defense was a flash light and a bad case halitosis...

It is very similar except the water for the mead is just slightly heated to help dissolve the honey. It is not boiled as in beer brewing.
