It is the debate that has been raging between generations of science fiction fans.
But Star Trek star William Shatner believed he had delivered the coup de grace two months ago when he delivered a stinging critique he thought proved his franchise was superior.
But there is a new hope for Star Wars fans, as original cast member Carrie Fisher has struck back with a rebuke that could return the Jedi-filled universe back to prominence.
In a somewhat rambling YouTube video, the Princess Leia star let rip on the rival sci fi favourite.
She said: 'They are not in the same league. i mean they have the word star in the title, and there is space travel.
'Where do they go to, Klingon? It just sounds like a laundry detergent.'
The successful actress and author had a list of grievances with the television and movie franchise that she said made it inferior, including lacklustre visuals, make-up, toys and video games.
She said: 'Show me a special effect, maybe they are just effects, they are not called special effects.

Actually, for its time, Star Trek was anything but "PC." In fact, it was downright revolutionary. Sure, it looks cheesy today, but remember that TOS came a few years before man landed on the moon. And it was revolutionary in a number of ways. They used the best technology of the time to form the Star Trek universe. Many people who were ground breakers in technology credit Star Trek with the inspiration to go into their fields. And of course, Star Trek had the first inter-racial kiss in television history.

Someone should ask 0 his worthless opinion and put it to rest. As for Shatner vs Fisher. Let’s wait and see if Carrie can have a hit like Boston Legal if she makes it to her 70s. Somehow I suspect she won’t be a Betty White.
And exactly right about Fisher. I know she writes books now, but when was the last time she acted in anything of note? Had she taken better care of herself and not gotten the hideous plastic surgery, she'd probably still be attractive and cast-worthy in movies.
That's because the practitioners of The Dark Side are so adept at hiding it in plain sight.

I agree about Matt Smith, abpnd I think Steven moffatt isn’t doing the show much good, which surprises me considering the great episodes he has written.
Tough to follow Tennant. Of course, I thought it was tough to follow Tom Baker and Tennant was even better.

Firefly was real SF...
Firefly was the definition of FAKE SF. It’s a western with science fiction clothes slapped on.
I enjoyed it, but the idea that almost every planet they visit looks like a frontier town on Earth is worse SF than Lost in Space at its worst.
Live it! Heh... Well, I guess there are exceptions...

The first two Star Wars movies (A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back) were better than all of Star Trek put together. Special effects, story, and acting were all far superior to Star Trek.
The Return of Jedi slid a bit. The entire new slate of Star Wars movies stank on ice. I put them on an equal level with worst of Star Trek.
Star Trek the Neurotic Generation had better special effects, better acting and better writing than the original Star Trek but was not nearly as entertaining. The stories were horrible and the preaching was simply intolerable. I didn’t even bother watching any of the others (Enterprise, Voyager, etc.).
The “re-imagined” Star Trek movie was horrible. The writers were completely incompetent. Nothing could rescue that movie.
But this is all irrelevant. Babylon 5 was the best of all of them and Firefly / Serenity was a somewhat distant second. The story arc of B5 made it special. If Whedon gave Firefly an arc like that it would have been the best!
