I really liked the episode about the Savior character. Also, the series allowed Barry Morse to play a character that wasn't one of the most hated men in America.

I agree. SPACE: 1999 started off tremendously (funky 70’s uniforms or not). Some of those eps downright scared me when I was a little kid. Especially “Dragon’s Domain”.
The bulk of Season 2, though...ehhh.

Producers get a bad rap, but the best ones were able to recognize talent, and put talented people together to create something of quality. Today, much of that is done in the packaging stage by the agencies, who have different interests.
