Good morning gardeners. As many of you may know, my wife is a manager at a Wal-Mart Superstore. About a month or so ago she was approached, via email, by Wal-Mart, informing her that there was a position opening up in one of their stores in Shreveport, La. and they wanted to do a phone interview with her if she was interested. She agreed and did the interview. Well last week they called her back and told her the position was hers if she wanted it. We were given an hour to make the decision. Job wise this is a good move for her and Shreveport is her hometown and a few of her family still live there or near there. She has 4 brothers and 4 sisters. The decision for her was easy but for me it was very hard to agree to the move. We own the property and the small house here in Meridian. This house and property will be very hard to sell. We will have to find a rental house that has a fenced in yard and that will accept our two dogs.
The reason for me sharing this information with all of you is, I may not be able to keep posting the Weekly Gardening Thread and I dont know if I will even be able to have a garden next year. So I am hoping someone in the gardening community will be willing to continue the thread on a reliable and weekly basis. Currently there are 490 Freepers on the ping list and quite a few look forward to the thread every week. I am hoping at least one or even more of you would like to do the posting or even share the responsibility in posting the thread and keep it going.
They said that they want her in Shreveport sometime after Christmas but have not given a specific date yet. I will be staying here and keep posting and she will be staying with one of her sisters until she can find a suitable house.
The store she is being transferred to is on the extreme west side of Shreveport and she is looking in the Marshall, Tx area for housing. So if any of you know anything about the area please let me know.
Do a search for Sun Valley Floral Farm for more information. I'll post a photo of my latest green house later
What was stark and confusing is that you could almost draw a line at the Louisiana border and it was much greener. Don't get me wrong, we have been classified as drought and extreme drought, but obviously there had been rain at critical times in Louisiana.
I don't know if the Sabine River has anything to do with it, because there are so many times that rain will be coming at us from the east and it gets to Vicksburg and never comes across the border. I've watched it for years and years. Granted, the Mississippi is larger than the Sabine, but it would seem that the river has something to do with it.
South FL Gardening Pictures!

The Green one is a Burpee Original Hubbard. Yes it’s really that big and it was hiding under the leafs. I am in the garden every day but I missed these!

Very nice!
Does it affect the taste? I wonder if it would make tomatoes sweeter?
Oh My! Nothing so ginourmous. We only have a one acre lot. Double car Garage size would be great, but I’d settle for an 8 by 8 that could with stand tornados.
I actually have a patio that is 10 by 22 feet that would make a great sun room/green house combo, if I ever win the lottery. Then I could walk directly from the basement office/computer and family room into the sunroom and harvest my tomatoes in the winter with out ever going out into the cold. LOL.
Not that I know of, My dad taught me to do that long long ago, There again they used to mix DDT with the Lime.. Kept the bugs away for years, Perfect cabbage heads! :-}
Now that I might be able to save up and get since we have a social security cola next year. Depends on how much everything goes up. LOL.
LOL! How things have changed. :)
I woke up in the middle of the night, and I’m watching Crazy Christmas Lights and they are featuring the lighted tractor parade from Ferndale. (Humboldt Co.) Do you ever go to see that? It looks like a blast.
Ferndale is just a few miles south of us and our daughter and family go every year but we have never been. Ferndale also features the tallest living Christmas tree in their community parks. My SiL grew up in Ferndale where his father was a history teacher in the high school. Very interesting town. We enjoyed the lighted truck parade last night just a few blocks from the Vast Bender Estate...
LOTS OF SEED CATALOGS!
Perfect for the winter weather...
ENJOY

Thank you for volunteering, so thoughtful and you are so busy too. A Great Big Thank You!
We went out to the chicken farm, and inquired about the chicken manure. The owner pointed to a pile by the chicken houses and said, “take what you need”. Now, I’m asking my hubby to help me blow the oak leaves from the berm onto a tarp to be put into the compost pile, plus pot ash, plus chicken manure, then come Jan or Feb, disk up and plow the area I have selected for our garden enlargement..oooo weee, I’ll just watch the steam and compost break down and into the garden area.
Oh, I need some prayers if ya’ll would mention the community garden. Seems there is a bit of a snag transferring the land from the owner to our little town. The lawyer, I’m told is dragging his pen (?) feet in the transfer. Don’t know why, I’m not involved in that, I’m just involved in getting the property ready, the gardeners their plots, the money for the electricity and water, stuff like that. There are people interested and would like to do some gardening and some people willing to help the gardeners.
The same happens here. West and north of the Brazos will get rain, but not us. But we do get the humidity from the river.
I’m jealous. So nice.
Thank you and thank god for FL!
Outstanding group of seed companies in one convenient location...I do business with quite a few of them...thanks!
