Letters to Santa show desires and distress of Greater Cleveland's children

Santa better have a Kleenex and a backup plan when he reads the letters addressed to him that are trickling into the Cleveland post office.

The view of the world from young letter writers is both depressing and inspirational, laid out in pencil, Crayon and fancy computer font.

Regardless of their presentation, their requests go well beyond anything I've seen advertised on the Qubo Channel.

I generally resist sentimental journeys because they lack authenticity. Nonetheless, this week I visited the large postal processing center on Orange Avenue, not far from Progressive Field, to take a peek the letters addressed to Santa at the North Pole.

I wanted to see what big gifts children were after in this retail-driven season, perhaps spot a trend.

The letters knocked the cynical smile off my face.

Yeah...the economy is turning around and shopping is up and unemployment applications are down...

these letters to Santa don't reflect that...

and I am sure the story just might be very similar throughout all the Santa letter stations this year.

Is he illegal or does he have a temporary work visa?

He doesn’t get paid to do what he does, so he doesn’t need a work visa.

Someone needs to write an article and suggest that the adults out of work - or who need rent - or involved in domestic violence - should ask the kids to ask their parents who they voted for in the last presidential election...I’m sure the majority would say Obama. The reason these kids aren’t having a Merry Christmas - why things are so bleak - is because these adults tried to GIFT themselves things they they never worked for or earned — and it’s the children that pay in the end...a lesson would be learned from this article - and the children shown that socialism and handing out other peoples money doesn’t solve problems - it creates more!

As poster stated below the article - go get a job...yes he’s right - the adults should have gone where the work is - as stressful as that is - and get to work. This is something I learned very young in life - and still go where the work is at!

Hopefully - these adults get there their program together and fix it for these kids!

Read the article and a large percent of the kids simply were asking for their parents to stop fighting and arguing

...how sad and heart wrenching ...

My wife and I raised six children....someone many years ago gave us some wisdom that really makes sense...and works

Never and I mean never fight or argue in front of your children....

Always have that discussion behind closed doors and try to keep it civil and low keyed...knowing your children are at full attention knowing their whole lives can change if the this fight will end their lives as they know it

Nothing makes a child, especially small ones more fearful than them losing their sense of security of mom and dad who love each other and that horrible word DIVORCE ...

Kids ALWAYS blame themselves when mom and dad no longer love each-other...and THEIR lives change radically normally for the worse...much worse

I hate divorce. My own parents divorced when I was 9 and for goofy reasons. Neither of them went on to any sort of successful relationships, and both died before the age of 65. They at least taught me what a stupid thing it is to do and how it doesn’t solve things.

I wish people would not believe divorce is the answer. I know several folks right now with kids who are divorcing for very minor reasons

No-fault divorce laws ...brought to you by ....the liberals.

All of that said, this is really sad if these letters really are true. Brings a tear to my eye. Then again, I work at a place w/ special needs children, and to me, if you have a healthy child, you’ve got everything already.
