How vulgar! £1 million 24-carat gold Rolls-Royce is unveiled
Mail on Line ^ | 17 Dec 2011 | Craig Mackenzie

The Rolls-Royce has always had a history of elegance and class - until now.

That prestigious reputation has been smashed by the world's most vulgar makeover of the company's iconic Ghost model.

An Italian fashion design house has created a gold-covered monstrosity costing more than £1 million

The Fenice Milano 'Diva' has been spray painted in 24-carat gold and the company is so proud of it they have described the model as a 'true.masterpiece.'

It is fitted with the same 6-litre twin-turbocharged engine of the Ghost, giving the saloon more than 560bhp and a top speed of 155mph.

Fenice Milano believes their Rolls-Royce is a 'synonym for class, elegance and style'. many would disagree.

The interior has biscuit leather and 24-carat gold throughout. The standard Ghost costs £220,000 but the Diva is now for sale at £1.05million. Phillip Brooks, a Rolls-Royce historian, described the car as 'bizarre' but also 'spectacular'.

He said: "I think what Fenice is doing with the Ghost is quite interesting. It's certainly a case of gilding the lily, but the gilding job looks pretty good.

'My personal taste doesn't run to something like a Diva, but I think it would be great fun to show up in one. All in all, perhaps a slightly bizarre car, but a very neat one.'

My attitude is along the lines of, if you weren’t willing to know me when I was poor, do you think I would want to know you if I became rich?

For a good comparison 500 ounces of gold can be formed into a wire that would wrap around the entire Earth.

These cars are the symbol of those who rise from poverty, make a lot of money quickly, and then sink back into poverty again.

For a fraction of that price I’d rather have a Jaguar E-type S2, with every possible system upgrade.
Imagine if Max Factor had worked as Helen Thomas’s personal stylist. At the end of the day she’d still be the ugliest woman ever. And a bit of gold won’t make the Ghost anything more or less than what it is—a really unattractive car.

There was a special on TV several weeks ago.
It was a tour of the Rolls factory as they are being built.
The detail in building one is quite remarkable.
I am amazed that all of them are not close to one mill.

For example, the wood trim has to be all from the same tree
to have a matching pattern.

Max Factor would be tempted to shoot himself after five minutes. “Lady, you don’t need a face lift. You need a whole body lift.”

Yeah, the lifestyle I want to live doesn’t need gold faucets or anything.

Even the reason why I want a three bedroom condo is so thay I can have one of the bedrooms as a home office and the other bedroom so I can have a real exercise room/hobby room.

My time is important to me and being able to use my time for things I want to do, as opposed to what I have to do, is my personal priority.

You’d probably know better than I would.

But no matter how much gold there is on that car, I think it’s a waste of cash.

John Delorean had at least one of his cars gold-plated as a marketing/promotional twist. I thought it looked pretty good..

I’d be happy with a cabin in the woods, far from the madness.

The Delorean/Cosworth Vega was cool, though in solid black rather than gold with gullwing doors.

I’ve thought about, if I had the money, to buy an acreage or something. Get away from people. :)

But I’ve thought about it and mowing all summer long or shovelling mile-long driveways in the winter really don’t appeal to me, though I’d love to garden.

For me, the comromise is that my patio would be quite the botanical garden, while I live in my condo would allow me to do my thing.

Modern imitation gold plate looks very close to the real McCoy and is more wearproof, and “brass” faucets are often done that way. You can even get them at Lowe’s. Ladies often appreciate the luxury touch even if the guys couldn’t care. It’s something about le difference that only God can understand. Maybe the serpent did it to the apple to get Eve interested, whereas Adam could care less until the serpent made it look more like a genuine NFL football.
