CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (LifeSiteNews.com) - Attorneys with Texas Center for Defense of Life (TCDL) representing a 14-year-old girl secured a temporary restraining order (TRO) on Wednesday from a Texas court that blocks several of her family members from forcing her to have an abortion against her will.

According to a TCDL press release, the teenager’s family members had scheduled an appointment for her to have the abortion at a local Corpus Christi clinic this week. The girl has been under intense pressure to have the abortion, was allegedly physically assaulted last week by one family member, and has been prevented from attending school. The unborn child’s teenage father and his mother also reportedly do not want the baby killed and have supported the girl’s decision to keep the child.

The court order prohibits the girl’s family members “either directly or indirectly from forcing her to have an abortion against her will,” which includes taking her to any abortion clinic.

“Roe v. Wade and ‘choice’ go both ways… if it protects the constitutional rights of a girl or woman to have an abortion, oftentimes without even parental notification or consent, it likewise protects the right of that same girl or woman to not have an abortion against her will” said TCDL President and CEO Greg Terra.

“No one should be allowed to decide that an innocent life - especially one that belongs to someone else - is worthless. The right to not have an abortion is protected by law, and this right is not relinquished just because someone else considers the child to be an unwanted burden,” said TCDL Vice President and Chief Counsel Stephen Casey.

According to TCDL, the high school student, who is carrying a 7-week-old pre-born child, is now even more resolved in her decision to keep her child. After suffering through several days of coercion and distress, the young woman’s friends contacted a local pregnancy center which, through various channels, was put in contact with Texas Center for Defense of Life.

“We intend to fully support this young woman in her desire to allow her child to live,” said Greg Terra. “Every mother has the legal right to keep her unborn child, against the coercion of others, and we intend to support her decision in this case.”

The motion for TRO was filed by TCDL attorneys in the 347th District Court of Nueces County, Texas. A temporary injunction hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2012, where the court will decide whether to approve an injunction for the duration of the pregnancy.

I hope this girl is somewhere safe. Perhaps she should go to a home for unwed mothers (where she can get medical care, go to school and have the support of other young women and staff).

May God Bless and protect this girl, and show the light to her un-compassionate, un-Christian family.

That’s fantastic but .... (there is always a “but”) The same legal reasoning would permit her to have an abortion even if the parents tried to stop her.

Where are the "pro-Choicers"? This poor girl's rights are being violated, and she is not being given a choice.

Good for her and her friends, standing up for the right to choose life.

The courts actually ruled in favor of life?

The reality is that the court also ruled that you as a parent have no right to PREVENT your adolescent child from having an abortion.........

It's called the Law of Unintended Consequences............Praise be to Government!

St. Ann’s in Washington, D.C. still exists. I don’t believe they specify that the girl/young woman is Catholic either. I think years and years ago, it was “assumed” the baby would be placed for adoption (times were different). However, not today. That is still available if the girl chooses that but keeping her safe, educated while pregnant etc... is the main goal.

I actually found a link that provides “maternity homes” state by state. (If I can post this correctly?) it is littlerose1999.blogspot.com/2007/03/homes-for-unwed-mothers. That is just one list that I found... seems like there are some in each state.

Don’t say “but”. In this one case they ruled for life!! That should be enough!

Good. So many are so quick to presumptively demonize the father of the baby when conception is premarital.

the young woman’s friends contacted a local pregnancy center which, through various channels, was put in contact with Texas Center for Defense of Life.

What good friends she has. Strange to think how her friends, in this case, were a better influence on her than family. How the heck did that come to be?

This also points out the two-way influence between law and culture. The prolife movement has created an environment where individuals in bad situations can find a way out, even if it means going against family. That is a victory, because culture leads law, and the culture of life is beginning to prevail, which it must, if good law is to follow.

That should be enough!

Take your blindfold off and stop reveling in your little temporary victory because you know darn well what the evil side of that decision is...............

Yes, all praise to Him.

Could this be “the silver lining on the horizon after the long dark night”? I hope so.

No - there’s ALREADY plenty of legal precedent that says a minor girl can have an abortion w/o parents’ consent.

This was a victory for our side, straight up.
