For about a week now, in multiple browsers and from iPad and iMac, Free Republic has been deadly slow. Frequently it times out waiting to load. This is on FIOS at top speed, both wireless and wired. No other site is even slightly slow for me.
I don't see any other threads mentioning this, and I've posted to the yahoo group with no responses, so I am assuming it's me. What could I be doing wrong?
Or has this been your experience too?
What's up?
It is the slowest loading sight I go to but since I cannot afford to donate, I don’t b**ch too much about it.
:)
No, at that, FR seems to be consistently faster (probably because of their lean design). Facebook has been locking up Firefox a lot lately.
Same experience. I suspect it is a site specific problem.
Well as of late it all has to go though the basement at Homeland Security before and after it getting toJim robs house it is all looked at and catalogued for later use
Yaelle, that has always been my experience, as well with FR, and I’m also on a mac. It is also the only site where I experience a slowdown, and yes, I am logged in, too. :-)
I am running a linux operating system, though, which is immune to a lot of malware and virus infestations.
It is tedious. Anyone who enjoys the site needs to chip in any amount they afford, and deem appropriate, for a tune-up.
Traffic is up at FR.
This is a very slow loading site for me as well. Especially for posting.
I often go out and about reading other sites while waiting. So certainly not a waste of time. ;-D

Maybe not exactly that, but I would suggest looking for routing problems or filtering problems at your ISP.
Don’t forget the “Homeland Security” keylogger software installed on individual users’ computers.
About a week?
It’s been dragging tail for years.
I still love the place.
Various causes I’d suspect but some upgrades are planned to maybe help the overall performance.
See the following:

‘’’’’P.S. We’re also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we’re going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I’d like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we’ll try to bring in a little more now if we can and the rest next quarter.’’’’’
Happens on the week ends and also every four years or so
See if you can compare it on the same wired connection to browsers running in Windows and Linux (on other computers if necessary). I’ve seen occasional spastic screen draws on Windows/Firefox.
And here I thought being half-way around the world in Australia was causing it to load slow.
Slow for several days now. Sometimes I get a proxy error message.
I’ve encountered myriad instances of Firefox locking up only here, particularly when using the reply boxes. I’m convinced it’s an addon that is not kosher with the latest update, though strictly speaking all installed claim compatibility. I’m using Opera for now.
