Imagine if we had a Republican President in office, who pledged that 90 percent of his legislative initiatives, would be to repeal the laws in the books, rather than to pass new laws. This would justify firing the hundreds of thousands of bureaucrats, who enforce those laws. America needs to get rid of the Department of Education, the IRS, the EPA, the NEA, the DEA, the EEOC, and other departments that limit individual rights and property rights. The restoration of the American freedoms requires the repeal of the Sixteenth Ammendment to the American Constitution (which was passed in 1913), in order to restore the system of government that the Founding Fathers intended the American people to have.

That quote from Goldwater’s book is one of my favorites, which is why it is on my FR Profile page.
We are so far from the intent of the Founders, it is deeply frightening.

This is NOT the America our founders envisioned. If they saw the country today ... they probably would not have made the sacrifices that they did. We as a society don’t deserve the freedoms they fought so hard to give to us. We should be deeply ashamed of ourselves.

Sadly, we have conservatives just as eager as liberals to pass more laws to to solve “problems”..............

Even in my small state, South Dakota, our legislature meeting for no more 40 days (35 in even years)still churns out hundreds of new laws each year. Granted some bills are to clean up legislative mistakes from previous years, but each session still finds plenty of new things to address in statute. I am fully convinced of the truth of the old maxim "...No man's life, liberty or property are safe when the legislature is in session."

“And now bills were passed, not only for national objects but for individual cases, and laws were most numerous when the commonwealth was most corrupt.”
Publius Tacitus or Gaius Cornelius Tacitus (ca. 56ca. 117), Roman orator, lawyer, and senator.
Most often quoted as, “The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws.”

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”
