ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates -- Perhaps it is rare to think of Tiger Woods mingling among a crowd of people wealthier than him, but there he was Sunday afternoon on the 18th green at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, as U.A.E. sheikhs worth billions tried to administer a trophy presentation.

Er, Rock is from England. Sheffield, I believe.
He played a fantastic round. If he wasn’t a little nervous, several putts that stopped an inch short of the hole would have gone in and he would have won by a lot. The only mistake he made was not taking 3-wood on 18.
Did Tiger say “Where the white women at?”
Did Tiger say “Where the white women at?”
One day he had been at a provincial pro's shop, stocking Mars bars and watching Woods win majors. Sunday, he was discovering a way to beat the man himself. You would be hard pressed to script that kind of narrative.
That’s a statement I’d expect at Yahoo Sports, not FR. Now, post something intelligent about golf if you’re up to the challenge.
The more exciting match was Stanley and Snedeker at Torrey Pines....I felt so bad for Kyle when his ball on 18 spun back into the water.....
His work to “return to the top” is curious to watch. Is he gearing himself towards winning more majors or building his bank account back up? He got big bucks to play in Abu Dhabi and his next appearance will be Pebble Beach where he vowed never to play again because he “hates the Poa annua greens” and silliness of the celebrity schtick.
His top priority is picking up chicks, so I'm going to say bucks.
This isn't the first time a tournament at Torrey Pines has been decided by balls spinning off that green. It is almost too penal.
I watched the live play early yesterday. What did I miss? Did Tiger get some kind of 2 point penalty? I didn’t have time to watch the replay and no-one mentioned it during their interviews with him.
Thanks for the ping.
Also left out was the poor showing of Luke Donald. I wonder how much everyone got paid to show up for such a small purse. Rock only got $340K
Hey Bay! Happy New Year to you too! How’s Doodles? RE: Torrey Pines...we have an Optishot set up in our garage and were playing Torrey south along with the pros... we had the greens set up “slow” but still had major chipping & putting issues!
“Rock only got $340K”
That’s pretty standard for a European Tour event, which this was. Also standard is appearance money on European Tour. Dubai has deep pockets. Tiger plays there almost every year... Follow the money. His fee is rumored to be 1 mil.
a man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man- Don Vito
Ireland? What were you drinking? Rock gave Tiger several opening, especially on the back nine. Normally Tiger would bring the par-5’s to their knees, but not today. His course management was poor. He kept using the driver when he didn’t have to. He could have played several par 5’s with the 3 metal and played for 3 shots to the green, stiff the flag and make birdie. His driver swing now looks really sad. He should drop Foley like a hot rock. Even his stinger 3 is off. He spent more time in the sand than an Abu Dhabi camel. When your putting for birdie from 50 feet on every hole you know you’re in trouble.
...unfortunately, Stanley didn't respect that pin position enough - as a young, non-winner, he should have either blown his second shot to the back of the green (or into the stands for a free drop), or after laying up, played his third to the right side of the green like a 10-handicapper. He chose the one option that brought triple-bogey in to the equation.
That player was gone three knee surgeries and a rule change ago. He can no longer swing that way, and the rules no longer favor that style of game as much as they did. Yet, Woods reverted back in subtle ways to his old game, when the pressure was on. I don't think he will ever fully adapt.
Stanley didn’t choke, he was just unlucky. His 3rd shot on 18 should have stayed up, and would have done so if it had no landed in the exact spot it did.
