NASA has Applied for a LENR Patent
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration or NASA the US government’s space agency has apparently filed a patent application for a low energy nuclear reaction (LENR) energy source. Joe Zawodny a Senior Research Scientist at the agency’s Langley Research Center made that revelation in a blog entry dated January 14.
Zawodny is the scientist seen in what appears to be an official NASA video promoting what is described as “NASA’s method for Enhancement of Surface Plasmon Polaritrons to Initiate and Sustain LENR in Metal Hydride Solutions a clean nuclear energy for your power operated technology.” These are the words used by a NASA announcer.
In his private blog Zawodny stated that the video was produced in conjunction with a patent application via NASA. Zawodny does mention the patent name or number in his blog.
Here’s what Zawodny wrote:
“If a patent application is filed, a video may be produced to inform the general public of the nature of the invention or innovation. It may be a non-technical piece that communicates what this invention is about and why people might care. Such is the case of the recent video on Surface Plasmon Polaritons.”
So he’s confirming that NASA has filed a patent application and feels confident enough to inform the public about it. It should be noted that the video presents no evidence whatsoever that NASA has a working LENR device. It only mentions a process so it is hard to see what the agency is patenting. Yet there is a patent application.
US application 20110255645 dated October 20, 2011, lists Joseph M. Zawodny as the inventor of something called the “Method for Producing Heavy Electrons.” It lists the patent assignee as “USA as represented by the Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.” In other words Uncle Sam is applying for this patent.
The patent application mentions low energy nuclear reactions and the Widom Larsen theory. It also states that the purpose of the device is energy generation.
The process described in the video appears to a Low Energy Nuclear Reaction similar to Andrea Rossi’s e-cat and other devices labeled cold fusion. In the video Zawodny describes how it can be used for home heating and water heating purposes and for electricity production. It is interesting to note that this application was filed in March 2011 shortly after Rossi and Sergio Focardi held their first e-cat press conference in January.
Zawodny does not mention Andrea Rossi or e-cat in the video or promote them in anyway. In the blog he mentions Rossi but seems to state that he has seen no evidence to verify Rossi’s claims.
So a US respected US government agency has applied for an LENR patent and has admitted that it is doing LENR research. That certainly makes for some interesting speculation.
One possibility is that NASA is planning to patent this device and commercialize it. Another is that the agency is hoping to get funding from Congress for LENR research. It should be noted that NASA’s budget has been cut in recent years.
The agency could be trying to get energy research funds away from the Department of Energy. The department is not very popular with the Republican Party which controls the US House of Representatives the lower house of Congress. Under the American system the House of Representative not President Obama writes the federal budget. So there are some interesting politics involved here.
It is also interesting to note that Zawodny is not taking any comments on his blog and has claimed he won’t respond to e-mails about the subject. That could mean that his bosses at NASA may have muzzled him.
Another strong possibility is that Zawodny is planning to leave NASA and go to work in the private sector where he could make huge amounts of money peddling his services as an LENR expert. Especially if LENR devices like Rossi’s e-cat start hitting the market.

In the United States unlike Europe it is common for self proclaimed civil servants to move back and forth between the public and sectors. The direction of the movement is usually dictated by the size of the salaries being offered.

Unfortunately, if Rossi did the following:
1) hired a bunch of actors to pretend to be the customer reps,
2) created an elaborate year-long special-effects-derived series of demos,
3) bribed, hypnotised or otherwise fooled Focardi, Levi, Kullander, Essen, Bianchini, Stremmenos
4) arranged for Piantelli, Miley and a host of others to try to fool the world into thinking that cold fusion was real,
5) got NASA, SPAWAR, The Defense Threat Reduction Agency and The Defense Intelligence Agency to say nice things about the field,
6) got Bushnell to make a fool of himself,
7) and convinced his former partners to set up another company called Ampenergo to pretend that they had a contract for The Americas for a substantial sum ----- or that they just did this with no proof because they have worked with Rossi and trust him because he’s such a fine fellow,
8) sold his profitable company to his ex-partners in order to spend that wealth on a multi-million dollar scam; ----- certain that once he got all the above ducks in a row he would pretend to sell the first device ----- and then reel in the true target of his dastardly plan
9) and convinced a bunch of Greek crooks to set up a dummy company called Defkalion ----- to pretend to fight with him over the non-existent eCat, ----- to perpetuate the illusion and spin it off into a competing mirror-scam
[the second (this time genuine) buyer of a 1MW plant that will net him $2 million dollars ----- until they want their money back or sucker a $100 million dollar deal under the table ----- because he has experience in pulling the wool over all these idiotic eyes ----- and knows that they will just take his word for it ----- and not want to test if his 1MW plant can heat a small village without truckloads of coal or oil or a big fat electric cable coming into the container from beneath the floor (no you can’t lift the carpet!) ]
10) and that, in order to pull this off, Rossi had to risk discovery by interviewing all the people he subsequently fooled so that he could only invite the gullible Professors and not the brilliant anonymous posters on the Internet who surely would have found him out
then, yes, all bets are off and I’m with the guys who think that Rossi is an idiot and they are all geniuses.

Isn't it interesting that the only Rossi facility that we have been allowed to see isn't appropriate for heating by the E-Cat, and relies on a portable propane space heater (seen in the latest Rossi video).
It's only the secret facility, that no one has seen, that is suitable for heating by the increasingly dubious E-Cat.
With the release of the video last month, we discovered that Rossi lied about shipping the "big" E-Cat. It's still sitting in his warehouse, with no signs of any test or support equipment that would be required to actually be testing or improving the device.
We also discovered that Rossi lied about using the E-Cat to heat his warehouse. The video clearly shows a propane space heater.
But, other than those lies, and other than the total lack of any actual evidence that he's doing anything at all, everything is going great!

Rossi claimed to have shipped his big shipping-container E-Cat.
When it was discovered that he had not moved the shipping-container E-Cat, he changed his story, claiming to be busy working on it in his Bologna warehouse.
The video clearly shows that nothing is happening around the E-Cat. No test equipment, no connection to water or a heat exchanger, no signs of anyone else (i.e. National Instruments) working on it.
When it was discovered that he had a portable space heater in the warehouse, he claimed that it wasn't worth using an E-Cat to heat the warehouse, since they "only use it now and then".
So, Rossi is supposedly busy working on the shipping-container E-Cat which is sitting idle in a warehouse which is only used "now and then".
The article mentions Rossi multiple times, like hundreds of other articles Kevmo has posted. Kevmo also spammed his usual screed about Rossi.
Not ONE SINGLE LINE of the above screed addresses ANY point IN THE POSTED ARTICLE. Stick to the subject, jerk.
So, any article that even MENTIONS Rossi is fodder for you skeptopaths, is that it?? It can be about any other cold fusion research, but if the word Rossi occurs, you'll jump in?? And you don't think that kind of obsessive-compulsive behavior isn't just "slightly" pathological??
Sorry, you ARE speculating, as you have no idea WHICH laboratory/facility Rossi is referring to. From the various videos from the demonstrations and from the slides from Focardi's talk, it is obvious that there is more than one in use.
