How to make Free Republic "STICKIER"... (Vanity)

The way to make a website more popular is to increase it's 'stickiness', which is defined as staying on the website and giving it more hits. Here's ONE way to do that:
When you do an < A HREF > tag, make it a point to include the following text: TARGET="_blank">
This will launch a new window with your referenced link, and keep the FR window undisturbed. Allow me to demonstrate. Let's say someone posts a picture of a pretty girl, and I was tempted to post, "I'd hit it". I might, instead, post this:
< a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcwYEGdKto8">Here's my answer.... this song goes out to YOU, good looking nympho at a Mensa meeting..... we all love you down at WLAZ....."You'll Never Find"..... the time is 6:44, and 48 degrees with clear skies at Hartfield airport.....All Hits, All The Time at WLAZ.....< /a>
Note that the above does not have the TARGET="_blank" verbiage. Note it's behavior. It took you away from the Free Republic website, decreasing the 'stickiness'.Now let us add the TARGET="_blank" verbiage....
< a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcwYEGdKto8" TARGET="_blank" >Here's my answer.... this song goes out to YOU, good looking nympho at a Mensa meeting..... we all love you down at WLAZ....."You'll Never Find"..... the time is 6:44, and 48 degrees with clear skies at Hartfield airport.....All Hits, All The Time at WLAZ.....< /a>
See the new behavior? You opened a new window. Neat, huh?+1 Recommend.

(And, as an aside, now, instead of writing the rather unimaginative "I'd hit it" when presented a pic of a pretty girl, I now send out a song from WLAZ)

Yeah neat, Laz! You’re some kinda MENSA FReak guru. Very neat. (I did not know that) My son-in-law set me up with 2 monitors on my desk top. If I’m reading FR and want to listen to a youtube video while I’m FReeping, I drag the FR title bar with my mouse right over to the 2nd screen (monitor). Then I open up the internet again on my 1st monitor and go to youtube or google, or FR again to have a 2nd FR thread up on the other moniter.
How any of that is done, I have no idea...but I highly recommend it. You can double your FR reading pleasure...one screen for each eye reading 2 different threads. I only have to figure out how to process 2 different threads at the same time. Split personality maybe?

Unless I’m mistaken, you get the same result if you just use Firefox tabs:
Use Firefox Browser
Right click on any link
Select “Open in New Tab”
This is how I browse through FR threads. Works for me.

All true, and it works in Microsoft Internet Exploder, too.
However, this requires reactive behavior on the part of the browsee.
The technique I posted is proactive.
Conservatives are proactive. LIBERALS are reactive.
Oh yeah. I turned it into an indictment of political views. Oh, I went there. :)

I wish they’d nest the threads, like if I’m replying to #2, then put mine under #2 and indented. Its easier to follow side issues.

You can also do this (at least in Firefox)
Right click on the link. Options include “Open link in new tab” and “Open link in new window”.

You know, I’ve been “meaning to donate” for years. I was able to get on the monthly donor list in about 15 seconds.

Is there a way to cause an open in new tab from the HREF?I don't actually know but the example links in the thread article open up for me as tabs and not new windows. Which is the behavior I prefer.
This works in Firefox and perhaps IE. In Firefox just go to the tools/options/tabs menu and you will see an option right at the top to open links that would normally open a new window in a new tab instead.
Try it.
