New alien planet is perfect for life, scientists say
FOX News ^ | February 2, 2012 | Denise Chow

A potentially habitable alien planet — one that scientists say is the best candidate yet to harbor water, and possibly even life, on its surface — has been found around a nearby star. The planet is located in the habitable zone of its host star, which is a narrow circumstellar region where temperatures are neither too hot nor too cold for liquid water to exist on the planet's surface.

WOW a lot of negative posts. I had to check to make sure I was still on the FR due to the lack of intelligent life.

All you have to do is look at our planet to know life CAN survive in environments completely hostile to humans.

Why is it so difficult to believe life could exist on other planets with more/less gravity, more/less light (happens here), more/less heat (happens here)?

Do you actually think our creator was limited to one planet in the entire universe? If he can create life from a liberal he can create life from nothing.

Only catch is gravity is 4.5 times that on earth.

And it lacks chocolate.

The gravity is 4.5 times of what it is here? Watching basketball would suck. Tennis would be fun though..

Wolfpack mentality. One wolf attacks and the others join in.

Only two ways to counter it. Cower in the underbrush or wade into the fray and piss on a stump like you own the place.

Actually what sticks out at me is the fact that the system appears to be poor in metals which can be a real problem for life as we know it.

Interesting point. The planet may have a sufficient rotation rate but lacking a liquid metal core, will not have the magnetic properties to shield the planet from the sun.

Plus there’s the fact that all life on earth needs metals in our bodies to survive. Our bodies just don’t work without them.

Remove all the iron from a human body and they will die.

Picky, picky, picky.

You aren’t going to live long enough to get there. :-)

Playing basketball would be even worse.

Review what Freepers have commented on. I didn’t see anyone questioning the possibility of life on another world. Rather they seem to be either discussing the sensational nature of the article’s title or were trying to be humorous in their own Freeper way.

Kidd, I guess we just read differently. There were many references to why life could NOT exist IMO but without asking each poster what they meant you have as much of a chance being right as do it.
