Santorum Now Leads Romney in Michigan February 11th, 2012 | Author: Ben Hart

Rick Santorum now leads Mitt Romney in Michigan — the state where Mitt’s dad was governor, according to a tweet by Public Policy Polling. The PPP tweet says: “Santorum topping Romney on the first night of our Michigan poll. This may be the biggest surge yet.”

True, but people are getting tired of this. And unlike Newt, Santorum projects the general image of a decent guy.

I simply don't see how Romney can win the nomination now - he cannot gain traction in any state without a large number of Mormons (Nevada) or NE Republicans (NH, FL sunbirds). It is becoming clear that Romney cannot overcome the dislike so many Republicans have for him, and for good reason.

Romney's only strength was the myth of inevitability the Party elites built up around him; the meme that GOP voters have no choice but to support him. Victor Davis Hanson described him perfectly as the castor oil that GOP voters would have to take. The problem, of course, is that those voters have been looking for a viable alternative to the man.

Now, much to the dismay of the Party elites and Romney, voters are starting to realize that it's Rick Santorum whom they've been looking for throughout the whole process. They've found their anti-Romney.

Santorum Now Leads Romney in Michigan

Nice!

Pretty good for someone who should drop out because he is polling at less than one percent, who can't win Iowa, who doesn't have any money, who doesn't have any ground game past Iowa, who doesn't have a viable path to the nomination.

Nice!!

I have the sense that Santorum could start crying in a debate with Obama.

My concern over Santorum is that the leftist media is going to be portray him as a religious extremist and a “bible thumper” which may scare, or alienate, many independents.

Yeah, but mostly in states that the Republicans would lose anyway. Except for the underticket candidates, what difference does it make if the Republicans lose Massachusetts 55-45 or 75-25.

Also, the overheated Meghan McCain type reaction will SUPER-ENERGIZE the base.

My view is that only three states count for November:

Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania.

The rest are either decided already or too small to count for much.

Win those 3 and you’re in.

God help the poor residents there, by Sept 15th they’ll be going stark raving mad at the avalanche of advertising.

I have the sense you have a weak intellect and an inability to articulate the positives of the candidate of your choice.

I have thought about that billion bucks that Obama is going to wash the nation in this year. It could easily backfire on him as every other commercial is either Obama or Allstate.

I live in Michigan and plan to vote for Gingrich. Romney is almost a favorite son...his father was Governor and is mostly well-remembered because he presided during some very fat years.

Still, I sense no movement for Mitt. Folks hereabout think of him as a Massachusetts liberal. His connection is with the DeVos and Van Andel familes, founders of Amway, and other very rich Michiganders.

What is “conservative” about him? Name one conservative action he took in Massachusetts. Romneycare??? Support for 12 year old girls to go to a judge for an abortion?

Truth is...he’s part of a dying species...a Rockefeller Republican. Goldwater stamped out this brand once...but like a bad penny, they keep turning up...in disguise.

Mitt is no conservative.

Great! If Santorum beats Romney in every state then Newt can be President.

Just like he cried in the last debate with Romney, huh? All of your posts show your prejudice against Santorum. None of them are worthwhile in an intellectual sense.
