Documents: PETA kills more than 95 percent of pets in its care By Alexandra Myers - The Daily Caller 11:29 PM 02/24/2012 ADVERTISEMENT
Documents published online this month show that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an organization known for its uncompromising animal-rights positions, killed more than 95 percent of the pets in its care in 2011.
The documents, obtained from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, were published online by the Center for Consumer Freedom, a non-profit organization that runs online campaigns targeting groups that antagonize food producers.
Fifteen years worth of similar records show that since 1998 PETA has killed more than 27,000 animals at its headquarters in Norfolk, VA.
In a February 16 statement, the Center said PETA killed 1,911 cats and dogs last year, finding homes for only 24 pets.
PETA hasnt slowed down its slaughterhouse operation, said Rick Berman, CCFs executive director. It appears PETA is more concerned with funding its media and advertising antics than finding suitable homes for these dogs and cats.
In a statement, Berman added that PETA has a $37 million dollar annual budget.
His organization runs PETAkillsAnimals.com, which reports that in 2010 a resident of Virginia called PETA and asked if there was an animal shelter at the groups headquarters. PETA responded that there was not.
The Virginian, the website reports, then called his states agriculture department. Dr. Daniel Kovich investigated, and conducted an inspection of PETAs headquarters.
The facility does not contain sufficient animal enclosures to routinely house the number of animals annually reported as taken into custody, Kovich concluded in his report.
Kovich also determined that PETA employees kill 84 percent of the animals in their custody within 24 hours of receiving them.

And they probably abuse the animals sexually before killing them.
PETA is the Planned Parenthood of the animal world. It’s just another left wing death cult.
Compassion, obviously, knows no bounds...
Probably was because they ran out of money, and could not afford to maintain the large numbers of “liberated” animals they supposedly released from their former savage owners.
Then PETA in turn treated the animals in only slightly less savage manner.
By killing them.
Aren’t they afraid the animals will revolt, and imprison THEM? Or don’t they believe in “moral equivalency”?
They’ve always been this way.
Pet owners and peta kills pets well damn.
Did you ever notice that the PETA freaks are also fervent supporters of abortion?
For people advertising constantly that they are nonviolent, these liberals sure murder lots of living creatures.
Obamacare for animals.
PETA, WWF, Sierra Club, Audubon Society, and the many offshoots are just veils for a few at the top to rake in cash. What they say they stand for is hypocrisy. They shill for the DNC and funnel money to the DNC. I quit the Audubon Society twelve years ago when I discovered they sent significant money to the DNC.
That’s exactly what came to my mind when I read the headline.
Where does PETA get its funding? I hope not from taxpayers.
Audubon also heavily pushes the man-made global-warming agenda. On nearly all issues -- other than their opposition to wind power -- they're a progressive activist organization for the Democratic base.
They won't receive one dollar from me, and I'm a professional birder.
The expense of caring for the animals interferes with their political pandering budget.
PETA most likely feels that the animals are better off dead than in the care of the evil humans.
Kirbdog
Why on earth would you think that?
I took it as a very poor attempt at humor. That said it failed.
I left the Sierra Club when they started supporting ecoterrorists. One of those ecoterrorists, Paul Watson of Sea Shepherd, is on their board of directors.
PETA and HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) both are lefty organizations intent on killing off the animals. Note: HSUS is NOT the same as your local Humane Society. HSUS collects money and only gives a very, very small percentage to local organization. It is their clearly stated goal to require all pets to be spayed or neutered.
