Further details from KRDO reveal that when the police came to the home previously (at around 10 p.m. on Christmas 2011), Ball and Glandorf showed their medical marijuana cards, but refused to let officers in because they didnt have a warrant. This, says Colorado Springs police spokesperson Barbara Miller, is kind of dubious:
If you have nothing to hide, most people would open the door and say, Yes, please come in and and lets dispel any information you have because its false.
****
And after that, no arrests were made or charges were filed, because the patients were not growing more than Colorado state law permitted after all. Supposedly a handgun was found, but Glandorf denies this. ****
Ball and Glandorf say that "shrapnel" from the flash-bang hurt their dog. Miller is quoted as saying that's not possible because flash-bangs don't produce shrapnel. (She stressed to Reason that she didn't have the technical knowledge to talk further, and she wasn't there, however. She also said that she didn't want to describe the unnamed roommate's previous weapons charge as "a violation." So things are a bit vague at the moment, but Miller's official statement, including on the weapons allegation, can be found here.)

You can argue the science of it for the rest of eternity until you literally run out of breath and collapse. TPTB do not care in the least. As long as there is money to be made in incarcerating people in private run prisons, and fines for lawbreakers, they will keep it illegal.
“There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kinds of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced nor objectively interpreted - and you create a nation of lawbreakers - and then you cash in on guilt.”
And people wonder why no one respects the law any more. People wonder why cops are hated.
Except the pills are so strong it leaves people unable to do simple things, like have conversations that make sense. Smoking allows one to control the dosage.
And if one is using cannabis for nausea (as many do) a pill is clearly not the best means of administration.
THAT is a scary statement, right there.
Speaking solely for myself, I have absolutely nothing to hide and I'd never let the cops in without a warrant. Too easy for someone who's looking to make a name for themselves, or is just plain lazy, to "find" something.
And, in general and unlike a whole lot of FReepers, I like cops. I worked with far too many of them to not like them. For the most part they're great people, level-headed and common sensical.
However, it only takes one.....like this idiot spokesperson.
Agreed; the system needs reform to get rid of the bad officers (and their spokesmen) more quickly and to encourage peace officers to remain (training rookies to also become peace officers). Clearly, the current system isn’t working to accomplish these goals.
If you have nothing to hide, most people would open the door and say, Yes, please come in and and lets dispel any information you have because its false.
This is one of the most BS statements the cops use all the time. Two cops came to my door a few years ago looking for some guy they said was dating my daughter(she wasn't dating him, BTW) and wanted to search my house when I told them he wasn't there, this was about 3 AM, couldn't come at a decent hour.
I asked to see a warrant and they gave me that crap line about "if you have nothing to hide". I asked them two questions,One: "Do you think the constitution was written to protect criminals or ordinary citizens? If you do then your question makes no sense, warrants are required to protect my rights as a citizen". Second question was this:" Will you allow me to go over to your houses right now, wake up your families and make a thorough search of your houses? If so then I will let you come in and search mine after I finish with yours". They couldn't answer the first question and got down right huffy over the second one and refused to let me search. I went right back at them and asked, "why? do you have something to hide?". They left right after that.
should read "If you do believe it protects citizens then your question makes no sense, warrants are required to protect my rights as a citizen".
I don’t do drugs.
I have personally seen the damage that they can do to you.
I have personally seen the damage that the legal system can do to you, and it is far worse than the damage the drug itself causes.
With that being said, there are those that fully support the swat team tactics on drugs. What these people fail to realize is that this is a war on the constitution itself.
Drugs, milk, firearms, eggs and so on. This intrusion on our rights continues daily, and it just gets worse. What these so called “conservatives” fail to realize is that an intrusion on our rights is an intrusion on our rights, regardless of your personal opinion.
The constitution, as written, enforced as written, would piss off liberals and conservatives alike. Many sacred cows would be gored on both sides. The war on drugs is just one of these cows lined up to be gored.
If you are a “conservative”, and if you believe in strict constituionalism, then you cannot support the war on drugs, the patriot act, fubocare, or many other things currently being done to us by the feds.
and a swat team raid is a swat team raid. A bullet in the brain is a bullet in the brain. Does it matter if you are shot over a joint, or a gallon of raw milk?
If you cannot see what has been placed in front of you, if you cannot see the unconstituional acts being performed in you own front yard, then your eyes truly are closed.
Agreed. Of course I did have trouble reading your thoughts in the glow of my mercury filled CFL.. :)
When it comes down to it, Dems and Repubs are alike. They want to control our lives, they just can't agree upon which aspects and who they want to control.
Sorry it took so long to reply.... I had to flush my low flow toilet twice to clear it... :)
Sadly, many self-professed conservatives readily abandon their strict constitutionalism when it comes to government programs they like - be it the War On Drugs, or Newt's prizes for moonbase advances.
and this is why, with a clear concience, i no longer call myself conservative... I am a small l libertarian ( if the commies and the conservatives both hate small l libertarians, then we are on the right track )
That is exactly why my doctor has me smoke my blood pressure meds...dosage control...
