JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) -- Once, long ago, Evie looked after "Barry" Obama, the kid who would grow up to become the most powerful man on earth. Now, his transgender former nanny has given up her tight, flowery dresses, her brocade vest and her bras, and is living in fear on Indonesia's streets.
Evie, who was born a man but believes she is really a woman, has endured a lifetime of taunts and beatings because of her identity.

Ohblablah had the nanny in Indonesia when he was a boy. Food stamps were a distinctly American tradition, which began with LBJ in the late 1960s I believe.
Not sure when Oblablah moved to the USA, but we were told he went from Indonesia to Hawaii to reside with his maternal grandmother who probably did no qualify for food stamps.

Here in the Philippines such folks are tolerated and laughed at, but accepted. I guess when our “good” Catholic politicians steal 20 percent of everything, have one or two “wives” on the side, and shoot their rivals, cross dressing is considered a lesser sin...

The nanny later joined a group of transvestites called Fantastic Dolls, who, like the many transvestites who remain fixtures of Jakarta’s streetscape, entertained people by dancing and playing volleyball.
