Just bogeyed the 16th to drop back to -1 for the day -2 overall
Had a double bogey on the first round hole #2, since then he has played very well.
Nothing is better than big John playing well on Sunday.
Even par on the 17th
Even par on the 18th.
ON TO SUNDAY
Go big John.......
If he can ever corral both his temper and his temperance, he might contend occasionally again--or at least make a few cuts, like this week, even if only barely. Of course, one wonders what 'demon rum' has finally done to that silky putting stroke he once had.
To complete the irony, Corey Pavin was in the group behind him, dinking his 250-yard drives.
As my Pappy taught me fifty years ago, “Drive for show, chip and putt for dough,: Did Corey beat him?
Too long ago to remember. I don’t think either of them were on the leaderboard.
And yet, he has consistently "gotten there" throughout his career, even if he had to hit a four-wood second to the par 4 72nd at Shinnecock to win the Open. Short drives, big heart.
Two who couldn't be more opposite, Pavin and Daly. But Corey has a major and John has two.
That's another thing my Pappy taught me: "It's not how, it's how many."
Even thru 6 holes - one bird one bogey.
-2 overall. Appears to be losing ground on the field who are shooting under par.
Bogeyed the par 4 7th.
Now +1 for the day and -1 overall
Bogeyed the 8th.
I can’t stand to watch if he starts his old famous fade.
That is a large number.
Big John bird on the 11th and 14th.
Back to even for the day and -2 overall.
Very solid performance. We can only hope it is the first of many.
