The Richer Sex Gender Roles Reversed
The Daily Beast ^ | March 20 2012 | Matthew Delucca

Posted on 03/21/2012 10:43:08 AM PDT by trailhkr1

40% of American women now earn more than their husbands. and the number is growing...fast.

How should a blue-collar husband and father react when his college-educated wife begins making twice his salary? Will ambitious women begin to want more of their mates than the men expect of themselves? In The Richer Sex, Liza Mundy draws on the latest research and the experiences of men and women across America to examine what happens when women become the breadwinners.

The big unpleasant question, Mundy says, is just how much will the tables turn? Will it be some men who wait at home to pamper a wife back from a long day in the salt mines? Some women will feel entitled to such treatment, much as some men once did, as they begin to contribute a larger share of the family’s income. “But just as women begin to feel that maybe it is okay to luxuriate a little bit when they get home from work, the question arises: How much luxuriating is fair?” Mundy writes. “Women will wonder whether they deserve perks in return for being breadwinners, and in their heart of hearts, they will answer: Yes. Yes I do.”

When are women going to break down the discrimination barriers and take on garbage collection, landscaping, and roofing jobs?

His wife is a successful lawyer with very large M&A firm and earns quite a bit more than the husband.

One definition of "undivorceable."

Funny story.

I’m not sure money matters as much as the author of this piece thinks it does. I think many women would prefer a lower-earning man that would stand up for them and (sometimes, deep down) stand up to them; be able to shoot a gun, fix a toilet, etc. etc.

They have, of course. And you wouldn't want to date most of these women... but that's just fine, because most of them aren't interested in you (though they might be interested in your date).

Mundy's book is going to be the main topic in Time magazine on sale March 26. Mundy writes. “Women will wonder whether they deserve perks in return for being breadwinners, and in their heart of hearts, they will answer: Yes. Yes I do.”

Hillary's running.

My wife an I try to live by the biblical direction for husbands and wives. It’s been challenging for both of us, but I believe ultimately rewarding.

That said..... these trends are undeniable. Just look and see WHO is going to college. Hint: It’ AIN’T men.

My accounting classes were 75% women 25% men, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I currently work with 12-15 women age 22- early 30's on a regular basis and there are 3 men. The women are very attractive for the most part.

Life is good (but I do have a gf).

The job market issue is a very dynamic one. I have way more years of post-graduate education than I care to think about (M.D. plus probably too much), and coming from that perspective I honestly think the idea that a degree is a ticket to a better paying job is changing. If you have a degree that codifies as specific skill set, then it will likely pay off. A university degree in and of itself, however, is not likely to have the same cache in the future as it has had. I know Ph.D.s who make significantly less than construction workers and truck drivers, after many years of education and postdoctoral work.

I've heard so many predictions over the past 15 years, including the one stating that Japan was going to become the world's superpower, so I take these kinds of things with a grain of salt. I don't think of gender when I think of people's qualifications or skills. Doesn't matter to me. Don't know why anyone would be interested unless they had a particular motivating resentment or agenda. Just my take.

Because females are more easy to manipulate* and far less likely to physically resist or fight a dictatorial regime, it becomes necessary for the government to neutralize men by empowering women. "GIRL POWER" is now an integral part of our schools where boys are essentially ignored.

It is much easier for the eventual world government to manage a ranch full of bunnies than a ranch full of wolves. Stripping society of 'male heads of households' is the unspoken and necessary goal of Agenda 21. To emasculate men, dis-empower them and suppress their ability to resist.

*As evidenced by the current Democrat appeal to women, using the 'War on Women', Fluke tactic to gather FEMALE voters for 0bama.

Not to be ignored is the fact that many men pay 65% of their income in child support to ex-wives who've remarried and that that tax free income to their households is not even computed.

Life may be good for you but once you set that selfishness aside you’ll see a bigger picture that requires that you be extinct. Read my post #30. Your post exemplifies my post. Thank you.

“You can’t change human nature...”

the whole, entire purpose of liberal existence, and what passes for “liberal thought” is to disprove that particular natural law!!

See politics, the debt regime and economic future.

The entire notion of ‘child support’ is criminal when the female ‘out earns’ the male as this article discusses. A female can only have so many fancy new shoes, right?

Well, between affirmative sexism and the legions of “women’s” groups out there, what do you expect?

Feminists, like the race-baiting poverty pimps in the black community, will never stop demanding reparations. How about this: forgive and forget. If everybody agreed to adopt a level playing field, I’d let bygones be bygones for all the times I may have been passed over for being the “wrong” race or sex.

This won’t be a permanent trend. The recent shift has more likely been caused by women in lower paying medical / teaching / childcare / social services jobs remaining employed while the men in the construction and trade industries are unemployed. If the economy picks up, those men will go back to being the higher earner.

Are you referring to men being the head of the household? Just curious to what you meant.

Oh my... Good luck with that!

I do a guest lecture once a year to Univ of Kentucky Senior Chemical Engineers.... over the years, there have been more and more females. This year, they were easily more than 50%.. in a ENGINEERING class!
