New Norton Problem
My PC | 3/22/12

Posted on 03/22/2012 8:09:17 AM PDT by pabianice

I installed REVO Installer and then used it to uninstall Norton 360. Then downloaded Spybot Search and Destroy. But when I try to install Spybot I get the Norton 360 window not allowing me to install spybot but instead demanding I reinstall Norton 360.

How the heck do I get rid of Norton?? It's like a disease.

What about Trend Micro Internet Security? Been using it for several years with no problems. Is there a better one I should try?

I've been trough them all and had different problems with different anti-virus warez and was about to pull my hair out till a Computer Nerd Friend of mine got me to install Mozilla Firefox Web Browser with the "No Script" addon and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and Spybot.

I haven't had a problem since and my websurfing speed is awesome!

You might try Micro Soft Security Essentials. It is unbelievably easy to use, updates flawlessly, is totally free to MS users, and is incredibly reliable. I have never has a virus breech it, in the 4 years I have used it. (And it has caught untold numbers of threats.)

Is is also so compatable with your programs, it won’t slow you down either.

Just go to; http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5201

Norton, once upon a time, was great.

Now, it's a plague. Get rid of it. Get Avast.

To me, the argument that it is better to stop a virus BEFORE it gets into your computer than to try to get it out when a threat is identified and code is developed to remove it is a no-brainer.

I believe in a tiered system of protection and Threatfire is my first line of defense. I think the Windows defender system also has some heuristic characteristics.

I haven’t had a problem that can be detected by any of the systems I use in years and I surf every day all over the net.

UPDATE. I tried all of your suggestions but none worked. I then went online chat with a guy in India (I am not making that up). I gave him control of my desktop and it took him over an hour to finally kill THE SOFTWARE THAT WOULDN’T DIE! I couldn’t follow what he was doing so I had lunch. It is finally gone. But who knows what else he did to my PC...?
