Tim Tebow's arrival in New York already has upset one New York Jets quarterback -- Drew Stanton.
The veteran backup, who signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract last Friday to be the No. 2 quarterback, has asked to be traded or released, a league source confirmed to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter.
The Jets are currently trying to trade Stanton, a source said.
Stanton is said to be unhappy because he was promised the No. 2 job and turned down more lucrative opportunities with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs to play for the Jets. He received a $500,000 signing bonus, but he could have a hard time finding a new team because the backup jobs are filling up.
General manager Mike Tannenbaum confirmed earlier this week that Stanton was to be Mark Sanchez's primary backup, but the Jets changed the plan when they acquired Tebow late Wednesday night in a trade with the Denver Broncos.
"Tim is our backup quarterback. Mark is our starter," Tannenbaum said Thursday morning on ESPN Radio's "Mike and Mike in the Morning."

BTW, I am a huge Bronco fan and wish that Denver would have kept Tebow. I am skeptical that Manning is going to transform Denver into instant contenders.
Yep. Definitely Cardinal material. Except that the Cards do have a couple receivers.
Let me clarify: I did not just randomly make up that statement. It was in an article about the St. Louis Rams trading for Tebow on ESPN and was listed as one of the primary reasons why Elway was getting rid of Tebow. Don’t believe me? Go look it up on ESPN and as I said, it is the prevailing RUMOR, not fact.

However, I agree that Tebow was not directly traded because of his faith but I damn sure believe that Tebow was traded because Elway loathes the guy.
The receivers blowing 4 or 5 catchable balls a game still leaves him with a dozen incompletions a game and it would barely tick his percentage over 50%.
As a person he’s great. But he didn’t chose a profession where he gets paid for morals, he picked a profession where he gets paid to complete passes. He doesn’t do that very well, which gets him criticized. As a person Ray Lewis is a POS, but much like Tim he didn’t pick a profession where he gets paid for morals. Lewiss picked a profession where he gets paid to sack QBs, knock down passes, and tackle ball carriers, all of which he does very well; which gets him praised. The NFL is just like the rest of the world, you get praised for doing your job, my boss doesn’t care if I’m moral, my boss cares if I find bugs and prevent us from shipping bad software. Your boss is probably similar.

When on a 3 step drop you miss an open receiver by 5 yards that’s not the o-line or the receivers, that’s the QB. The minute he got drafted his college number meant nothing, he’s now a PROFESSIONAL football player and gets paid to put up numbers in the NFL. Again just like normal world professions, college don’t mean a thing once you’re a pro.
Even if Gabbert is better than Tebow, who is going to put more butts in seats? Tebow would immediately add millions of dollars to the value of the Jags' franchise. Kahn should have overruled him.
Just all a bunch of drama queen soap operas. Either play ball or shut up and stay home.
Hard to do your job when your given substandard tools dontcha think? As I have repeatedly stated, give the kid a good O-line and decent receivers and then look at his numbers. If he puts up similar numbers, I will drop all arguments and agree that he isn’t NFL material. Until then, we’re all just speculating.
I think the main reason Tebow’s trade value was so low is that because of his unique skill set and style of play, a team would pretty much have to rebuild the entire offense around him. It is much harder to simply plug Tebow into an existing system as either a starter or a backup.
Plus, all the Tebowmania could be too much of a distraction with him as the backup. I applaud the Jets for having the courage to give him that role. The fact that they like to use the Wildcat and their new offensive coordinator used it more than anybody at Miami, makes it easier.
Tebow may not be a classic drop back QB, but IMHO, there is no way having a guy with his talent, toughness, leadership and character, can be anything but good for the team that has him. One way or another, he will always make his team better, whehter he is the starting QB, a change of pace guy in the Wildcat, or barely plays at all.
I am a very happy Jet fan. This is beccoming a very, good sports year for me. First Jeremy Lin with the Knicks, now Tebow to the Jets.
There seem to be different stories around about how the Jets plan to use Tebow. Yahoo sports has articles stating he will be used in various roles, but will also be the backup QB to Sanchez. Articles also say the Jets are trying to trade Stanton, and that he wants to be traded.
Wow you really are delusional. None of the “facts” you quoted are correct and you clearly have NO football knowledge.

Only a poor performer blames his tools. And again I’ll point out, when you miss open receivers on a 3 step drop is ALL on the QB. And really given his rushing numbers the idea that his o-line was terrible is frankly silly.

There were Bronco games last year when the protection for Tebow was terrible. If he hadn't been able to leave the pocket he'd have completed even fewer passes. Have always been a Manning fan and am not looking forward to seeing Peyton try to operate if the protection hasn't improved.
(And late in the season, Tebow still had better stats for the same number of games as Elway had his first year.)

Maybe Stanton should talk to the Broncos....their backup is now Adam Weber, who has never thrown a pass in the NFL, in fact, has never suited up for an NFL game. If Manning goes down, the Broncos will have a BIG disaster on their hands.
The Patriots exposed the Broncos offensive line as non-existent when relegated to protecting the QB. A lot of people either never played football or quit after getting knocked on their keisters in pop warner. That's the only explanantion I can come up with when people insist Denver's offensive line could protect a pocket QB. Pretty good on rushing but passing? Simply awful.
No kidding, I recall one game his receivers dropped 3 or 4 passes I could have caught. (30 yrs. ago)
