Santorum: Zimmerman ‘has a very sick mind,’ motive ‘a malicious one’
The Daily Caller ^ | March 25, 2012 | Jeff Poor

On Sunday’s “Face the Nation” on CBS, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum explained that his view of the Trayvon Martin shooting differed significantly from the one held by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich was critical of President Barack Obama’s reaction, but Santorum placed the blame on accused shooter George Zimmerman’s mental state.

“Well, you know, obviously, I’m not privy to what’s going on in someone’s mind,” Santorum said. “Obviously, in my opinion, someone … has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this. This is clearly a heinous act. You know, there are a lot of people who have a lot of distorted views of reality. It’s a tragic, tragic case. And my heart goes out to the parents, too. I can’t imagine what they’re suffering, losing their son in such a horrific way. All I would say is that, whatever the motive is, it was a malicious one, and a very, very tragic one.”

We survived Carter to get Reagan, we’ll survive this.

Actually, it is sad and sorry attempt to rebuild the image of a throughly defeated candidate and make him relevant again. If Gingrich were to withdraw, like what Bachmann, Cain, and Perry, so honorably did before him when they start to lose elections and their poll numbers plummet, he’d be relegated to the officially irrrelevant. Now he stays in the race, makes glib comments on FoxNews, and Voila, the genius has spoken. Voters in La roundly rejected the pie-in-the sky $2.50 gas/gallon and permanent lunar colonies. So he says something about Trayvon and immediately this becomes the Gospel for his followers on FR. To be sure, there has been a lynch mob mentality but that has more to do with the race-baiting Sharptons and Jacksons of this world. Santorum spoke to the act of killing an unarmed individual, black, white, yellow, or brown, and it shouldn’t matter. The excessive use of deadly force, no matter the context, is the taking of human life without due process and is prohibited by our constitution. As strong constitutionalists, we must speak up to violations and not simply on occasions where our own ox is being gored. Gingrich needs to remain relevant and so he continues to remain in the race courtesy of his sugar-daddy casino mogul whose real intent is to stop Santorum from being a credible alternative to Romney. And he sure appears to be succeeding.

Sigh.

Mr. Santorum needs to take a day off to catch up on some very badly needed sleep.

Why should a Presidential candidate even comment on a local case, where there hasn’t even been any arrests yet....he’s basically implying that the Sanford PD is racist, because Zimmerman hasn’t been arrested yet.....a simple “I don’t have enough knowledge of all of the facts in the case, and I am confident that ultimately the truth will come out”, should be the most they should say.....but NOOOOOO!

Besides, it’s not as if he will convert a single black voter with this statement.

He thinks he already has his base shored up. Might as well start moving to the center. This is how he has conducted his entire political career.. Suckers

I wonder if we will get to see if the victim had any priors. Evidently, he was suspended at the time because he was at a location in the school that he was not allowed to be. That's all they will tell us. His parents have ordered the school not to discuss his records. I'm not sure we will be able to see if he had any criminal charges, since he was a minor.

Not only Mr. Zimmerman is afraid for his life, but you can bet the witnesses are also afraid, since they back up Mr. Zimmerman's story. One of the witnesses is only 13 years old.

“That said, this Zimmerman fellow should have called 911 to report suspicious activity and left it at that.”

I agree he should have.

“Zimmerman probably didn’t intend this outcome, he may have even been attacked by this guy, but he could have avoided it all because there was no need to go so far.”

Is Zimmerman guilty because he set in motion a chain of events that resulted in a death even though he may have been defending himself at the time?

“If this guy attacked him while sitting in his car, Zimmerman had every right to protect himself, but if he was following the guy to the point of getting out of his car...well..”

If Zimmerman left his car, and was attacked while returning to it he has every right to defend himself.

Santorum could say anything and Steelfish will defend him. He/she is as blinded by devotion as the Obama voters. You are speaking reason to a brick wall.

Yeah, I have to admit that despite his ‘inconsistencies’ (on the couch with Pelosi, et al) he’s the only street fighter we have.

We’re f*ckt.

Ping “He wasn’t pursuing him. He had broken off any pursuit BEFORE he was attacked by martin.”

“He OBEYED the request if the 911 operator.”

I'm guessing I was pinged on this one because of this comment I made earlier in a different thread:

Correct that the call reflects that he had lost sight of Martin, incorrect that he stated that he was returning to his truck.

The gap from the time Zimmerman opened his vehicle door to the time he acknowledged the dispatcher's "we don't need you to do that" is 18 seconds. When the call ends another minute and a half later, no only has Zimmerman not made it back to his truck, he changes his mind about meeting the police at the mailboxes. While not proof, it would seem to indicate that he was still looking for Martin.

Now his statement to the police AFTER THE FACT, included the comment that he was on his way back to his truck and was attacked by Martin.

Nice try but you sound like someone who’s never been in a street fight or had to fight for your very survival. There’s no such thing as fair fight. If you feel your life is threatened, whether your assailant is armed or unarmed, you do whatever is necessary to preserve your own life. The assailant be damned. The fact is Santorum was not armed with the facts but shot-off his mouth nonetheless!

What a moron. I can not BELIEVE this is one of the candidates for the GOP nomination.

I've known this jackass was a moron and spineless pandering douchebag for years!

He and Newt need to stay in though, to keep that other degenerate , the Bishop from Planet Kolob, from buying the nomination.

What would it matter who started the physical altercation...as long as treyvon had no deadly weapon.

Zimmerman had no authority to be following this kid:

Training provided by law enforcement agencies to Neighborhood Watch organizations stresses non-contact surveillance of suspicious situations and notifying police of those situations so that law enforcement can respond and take control of the situation.

How stupid can you possibly be?

People die from blows to the head, multiple times, daily.

Ya think if someone is beating your face in, you not going to protect yourself?

wduuf is up?

Rick, seriously shut your piehole and let the race baiters sink themselves in this pathetic display of opportunistic outrage. They don’t need our help to fan the flames of discontent. The Reverands are doing just fine on their own.

I’m always amazed at how stupid our side can be.
