Bert Sugar dead at 74, long time journalist and boxing historian loses battle with lung cancer

Boxing suffered a great loss Sunday when the sport’s legendary journalist and historian Bert Sugar died at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco of a heart attack following a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was 74.

The local sports talk radio show host talked to Bert once a week. I'd sometimes catch the show on my way from work. I'm not a boxing fan, Bert , however, was an interesting character and had a million stories from the sports world.

I always enjoyed hearing him on those espn classic boxing shows. He seemed like the type of guy who could talk to you all night about boxing history.
