How much did Palin hurt our chances by not running ?

Posted on 03/26/2012 9:12:25 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

Obviously we will never know for sure. But how different would this race be right now in your opinion ? What would it look like ?

Would she have been just another piece in the "not romney" revolving door or would she have broke through ?

Would she have won the nomination ? and then the election ?

I honestly think Palin not running was the most significant event of the primary campaign to date.

“Perhaps you don’t remember 2008??? That happens to the young, they forget the past.

It would have been that on steroids. Even the GOP-E were sharpening sabers every day...I am sure you remember the snarky comments from the likes of Krauthammer and Rove and Coulter.”

This. The GOP nomenklatura have the candidate they want right now, and they will see him nominated at all costs. It will cost them everything.

“It’s almost like the establishment GOP wants to lose.”

Ever hear of Vidkun Quisling?

We will never know. There was a time when I’d have supported her to the hilt. No more. She coyly demurred way too long and, I think, contributed to the slate of contestants we began, and now have ended up with. For this, I’m pissed, to tell you the truth. I wish her well, but I’d just as soon she stay home.

Your example of Reagan in 1968 is quite apt.

Reagan was put in the sh*t list for backing Goldwater. He tried to stage a putsch in Miami Beach, but Nixon had Strom Thurmond behind him rallying the Southern delegates. Thurmond told Reagan that his time would come.

Palin did not run because she understood that, even should she win the nomination, the Establishment would Goldwater her. She is not strong enough to challenge them yet, and Romney is determined to run, and lose, against Obama.

Palin will be back, in 2016.

Best,

Chris

>>...Would she have won the nomination and then the election?...<<

I wouldn’t pause for a split second before voting for her. Compared to the current slate, I believe she would stand head and shoulders above them all.

However, consider how Romney is doing. There is a significant chunk of the electorate voting for Romney when they have Santorum, Gingrich and Crazy-Uncle Paul to freely choose from as well. This tells me that, although I (and a bunch of Freepers) would strongly support Palin — there are a whole lot more voters who would vote the way the MSM tells them to vote. Or, at least it seems that way.

We should all know by now that just because someone registers to vote as a republican, that does not mean they are conservative. As depressing as it is, the support Romney enjoys should be given a good bit of consideration when trying to figure out how Palin would do in a national election.

I’m sure there are several threads here regarding the recent Executive Order Obama signed regarding giving him control over EVERYTHING - in the event of a disaster, or whatever they’re calling it now.

With that info, I’m more than sure that Obama is really prepared to declare martial law - and if Beck is right - and we have protests in the streets this summer - it could get ugly.

Also, I recently saw where there is a huge building in the process of being built out in Utah - supposedly for NSA where every person in America will have their ID stored - both SS # and cell # and email address. Don’t like the sound of that at all.

These people truly do scare me.
