Obama won’t buy Mega Millions ticket, White House says

President Barack Obama won't be joining the throngs of Americans lining up to buy a Mega Millions ticket, the White House said Thursday as the multi-state lottery's jackpot hit a record estimated $540 million jackpot ($389.8 million if you take the cash option).

But "I'm going to run out and buy one," press secretary Jay Carney lightheartedly told reporters as he wrapped up his daily briefing.

Earlier, at a deli a few blocks from the White House, customers lined up six deep to trade their greenbacks for the salmon-pink tickets, some of which bear the mention "D.C. Lottery Commemorative Ticket" and "I played the world's largest jackpot!"

I bought 2 numbers at the local convenience store last evening. I was the only one in the store, except for the clerk. They may get busier today.

Is your store in a poor neighborhood? That's where the vast proportion of tickets are sold.

Another big winner in the lottery will be whatever state the winning ticket is sold in. They can get a massive windfall when they tax the winner.

I’m doing ok. But for $1 I can fantasize about crushing my enemies, seeing them driven before me, and hearing the lamentations of their women.

Seriously? The president getting a lottery ticket? I am not a player and if I were able to get a ticket, I wouldn’t play one that has captured the attention of the national media. I’d rather have the 10-20 million dollar payout. It’s still enough money to change my life, but with minimal publicity. I’d still run into the bottom feeders, scam artists and long lost relatives, but my picture, etc. would probably be restricted to the local paper.

When people win the lottery, they usually quit their jobs....darn, now I wish Obama had bought a ticket.

Shouldn’t he be forced to buy one, to increase the size of the gambling pool, and raise the jackpot for everyone else?

If that's the kick you get out of it, then it is money well spent.

I think you're confusing the lottery with the Alternative Minimum Tax.

I bought for the first time in 2 years. Somebody’s got to win. Maybe it’ll be me. Maybe pigs will fly too.

I’m buying one from about 10 different stores.

If I win(Shea ... and monkeys will come flying out of my butt) I’ll end the misery for several relatives and friends.

I’ll start throwing bars of soap away when the letters come off and from now on the house will be 65° year round.

If the boss don’t like it I’ll buy her a home about 20 zip codes away. LOL

States have muscled themselves into the number racket. When are they going to take over the prostitution business?

Pick up a calculator. Enter 1. Hit the divided by key. Enter 760,000,000. Hit the equals key.

That is your chance of winning.

Mega Millions is 175,000,000 to 1 for each set of $1 numbers.

Play $10 and your odds are 17,500,000 to 1

Still very unlikely but consider how many people in all of history invested only $10 and managed to turn it into $500 Million overnight. Probably far less than one in 17 million. Also consider the number of families that rose from lower/middle class to $100 million+ wealth within one generation is most likely less than the number of lottery winners.

I’m an engineer that’s good at math but I play 1-2 times a year. I live comfortably but there is no one in my industry that ever got $100 million+ rich. The leaders at the big public firms or owners of smaller private ones are multimillionaires but not even close to lottery rich.

I control my own destiny, work on my own ideas and don’t depend on the lottery but $20 gives me a 1 in 10,000,000 chance of instantly making my entire family wealthier than all the wealthiest people in our respective industries.

Barrack “Double Down” 0bama only gambles OUR money.

He likes giving large amounts of OUR money to large campaign contributors for speculative ‘green’ energy - that they then fritter away in a haphazard manner to all their friends and associates - while consuming more energy than ever will be produced by their products.

A half billion here, a half billion there - but who is counting all the money we lost?

Time to “Double Down”!

That line was originally from Genghis Khan.

Another scene in that movie, adapted from history, was when Thulsa Doom asked the young lady on the ledge to “come to him” and she did, plunging to her death.

That was from when a Christian Knight went to see the cult of the Hash smoking Assassins (NOT making this up!) and the Knight bragged about the power of his army - the lord of the Assassins asked one of his men to step off the ramparts - and he did - he asked a second - and he did as well - he was about to ask a third when the Christian Knight cried out over the loss of life. “THAT is power!” the lord of the Assassins bragged.
